Yeah, gf sees it as a beginner type kinda like bug, see how many very early gym leaders use rock types. Plus it has a sort of flavor gimmick of high-power physical attacks with additional effects at the cost of imperfect accuracy, which often just isn't worth it. Meteor Beam has some applications with power herb but I don't understand the lack of Accelerock distribution.
Might also be worth mentioning that they might keep putting rock down because it poses a risk to CHARIZAAAAAAAAAAAAARD. The best thing the type has going for it is stealth rock.

Because most of rockmons are slow.... it would be illogical to see a rock move fast

Rock already has Stealth Rock to be a formidable nerf to Charizard. No other type has a hazard which uses effectiveness into account. (minus gmax copperajah's niche gmax move)
