Anon while I like Leon a lot, the ideas and concepts given to him were really good for a champion on a region who treats battles as a sports tournament well liked by everyone there, but SwSh sucked on executing them properly. His likability is stablished, yes, but you can't really form the idea of how much of a deal the regional Pokémon League is besides what a couple of NPCs says. He is unbeatable, a celebrity and a hero-like figure even, yet they fail to show -or hype him up- how powerful he is supposed to be. It's real good that we finally have a champion who does champion duties but everything happens offscreen, and that's my main problem with how SwSh handled its characters and concepts. Because on paper they're great, but on execution, they failed real bad.

Maybe you should rewatch it, cause Ash was kicking his ass pretty hard. Ironically, the reason Ash lost was because Gigantamax randomly kicked in and Pikachu couldn't really make good use of his new giant, fat body. Leon even wipes his brow while sighing in relief after the battle ends like "Phew! Finally. That was closer than I thought it'd be."

Well they could atleast had done better that first cutscene of him and Raihan in the exhibition match, as far as cutscenes go. They had the intention, why not making something slightly better then?

A champion is a trainer who is pretty good into training its pokémon, and so the trainer can be considered someone who knows how to treat them, or how to fight them. They're very good in battles afterall, so that's why they are like "heroes" and the police could let them do the hard work when it comes to fighting a pokémon. It's like when you are a boxe champion (or whatever martial artist), and you have more possiblities to get hired as a cop or bodyguard.

obviously the twist of Blue being champion makes him the best, and it fits with the narrative and progression since he always was one step ahead of you, even leaving the lab before you.
but it's abundantly obvious that the increased production values resulted in something good. even if the animations (thanks XY for forcing all fliers to hover due to that dumb fuck aerial battles feature) and colors took a downgrade compared to the DS games and PBR.

No, I expected him tagging with me in the Eternatus battle, not his brother. I also expected him to own the opposite legendary from the game one's playing as his ace instead of Shillzard. I expected him to be more inclined to tag with me to solve matters from the main plot instead of shouldering all to himself... tl;dr: I was not expecting the Champion to ask me to do his job like the older games, but not to the extent of stealing the spotlight way. too. much.
