In Blue, I kept Tackle on my Venusaur all the way. All the other moves were scary to my non-english speaking self but it was reliable and safe. I got actually upset when I accidentally taught Sleep Powder to it because I lost that reliable move.
Also relating to me not speaking english, I absolutely couldnt understand the process of learning new moves. I kept selecting the options that made the thing loop repeatedly, so I thought that the game broke whenever that text thing appeared.
I also thought that the game ended after Lt Surge, since I couldnt find a way to progress after that. It was confusing to me since the show definitely had stuff going on after him. So I just endlessly replayed everything before rock tunnel until on one playthrough I accidentally found the tree to cut.
Althought I learned this relatively fast, I didnt know what saving the game was, and I thought you had to complete the game in one sitting. (Granted I was used to old console games where that was the case.) My mom thought that was really weird and she found out about the save feature and taught me how to use it.
