Depends on what you define as a hardcore fan. If you like raising Pokemon to battle-ready standards, this game is perfect for that. If you like building a trophy collection, stick to USUM.

Casuals can enjoy a hand holding hallway simulator complete with map objectives in Sword and Shield already.

I'm actually struggling to imagine how much more hand holding they could do outside of actually putting the game on rails and revoking the use of a free camera (in certain areas).

I agree. Sword and Shield were way too hard and way too long. No one has 20+ hours to put into a game anymore. They should cut the number of Pokemon down to about 151, and try to make the game areas smaller.

Too bad cutting most of the roster ruins it. No, it's not balanced and straight up removing Pokemon from the fucking game is not a substitute for making proper banlists.

SWSH is only for hardcore fans in the sense that you have to be willing to eat up ANYTHING Pokemon to consider it "good".
