Currently running pic related, going 6 and 0 right now, blasting through the ranks. Lots of people in the lower ranks that dont run Protect for.. some reason. Also no one running Taunt/Fake Out or stuff like that, occasionally Follow Me, but its not hard to deal with. Apparently no one knows that Knock Off still exist. GMax Hawlucha for Airstream and my Rilla just knocks off everything.

Just getting into VGC now, starting a team based around a sweeping Porygon-Z with Life Orb (probably Hyper Beam/Nasty Plot/Dark Pulse/something). I'm adding Whimsicott for Tailwind support and maybe Togekiss for Follow Me + Hitmontop for Fake Out/Close Combat/Helping Hand or something.

What would you guys suggest I do to round out/improve my team?

It just saved my ass when playing against a G-Max Lapras team. My plan was to have my Togekiss & Kingdra wipe out all of his other mons while saving Lapras for last so Rillaboom can kill it after Aurora Veil expired. It ended up being Rillaboom alone vs. Lapras and Ludicolo and he stomped both of them with the move.

So far for me I havent ran into much terrain setters. I cant really think of another item other than Fire/Flying Berry, Miracle Seed, or Expert Belt. If down the line I ended up fighting more terrain setters I might switch to Expert Belt for the boost in Knock Off damage over Miracle Seed. So far I can barely 1 turn kill Dusclops.

Poison coverage doesn't matter, a strong fart will OHKO Whimsicott. Just have multiple Fake Out users, which is kind of the meta anyway. For example, lead with Incineroar, and then switch in Rillaboom so even if they protect, you can Fake Out turn 2

but being able to come up with actually good meme strats is part of what makes some players good. If you want to put all your eggs into one gimmick basket and do meme stuff, be good at it; it will win you games out people simply not knowing what the fuck you're doing. But it has to be an actually good meme strat. But you're not actually gonna get good at battling that way, if you care about that. It's a handicap.

You dont really need to set up with PZ, it already does crazy amounts of damage with Max Strike, just run an LO set with Clefairy as a partner to help patch up that bulk. You probably need something to check TR in the back, but that isnt too hard really.

Has a cool G-Max and good special bulk, but Volcarona is infinitely better. It's too frail physically and slow to be useful, and not good for TR either.

Actually can be decent. Good speed for Trick Room, good typing, and a great ability. It gets Fake Out and you can pair it with something that will be using a Steel type move a lot. Cool pokemon.

>Mr mime
It learns great support moves in Fake Out, Icy Wind, Trick Room, Ally Switch, Taunt, Helping Hands and Imprison. Vital Spirit and Screen Cleaner are both pretty good abilities as well. You can give it an Eviolite as well. It's a pretty solid pokemon.

Anger point Krookodile, would you go with Rock Slide or Thunder Fang for last move? I'm not fast enough to get flinches off but is rock a better coverage than eletric? Electric gives me terrain against sleep and taking out Rilla's grass, but Krook also isn't opposed to sandstorm chip.

Been thinking where they could potentially be useful, but how are in actual play?

How common is it to use a dynamax water move to make it rain? It seems like a good option for rain teams.

What kind of archetype does alakazam fit into? I was looking at how dynamax psychic moves make psychic terrain. Can he carry himself in this regard without having to rely on indeedee?

I haven't seen a pledge team in a long time. I don't even remember how it works so I can't say for sure it wont be effective, but it likely pales in comparison to other proven strategies.

Fairly common. Weather wars and terrain wars are the meta.

Hyper offense, Alakazam is really frail so people want to do as much damage as fast as possible. Having no Psychic terrain from Indeedee really hinders its potential to do damage to the point where you're better off using other mons.

Ive actually already got a perfect bred chari, blast and venu from a previoud game, so thats why i asked about the pledge combos (all with their hidden abilities, havent used shrooms yet to keep their weather/terrain effects, just in case; and i can obv use an ability pill to swap them to their vanilla abilities if needed)

If i were to make the pledge moves a secondary strat, how would you recommend I build around those three (or at least two of them)? Would save me some time to get on the ladder is all im thinking.

This could be very good, but beware of Tailwind teams because you don't have Tailwind yourself. You would have 2 Fake Out users to deny it though. If you're smart, you can use Trick Room from your own Chandelure when they Tailwind, even on your fast Pokemon like Durant. Durant is massively slept on at the moment. It's still a very strong pokemon to build a team around.

Zard should just be Dynamax. G-Max is a waste on him. It's more beneficial to set sun and boost your Fire moves by 50% and further boost with Solar Power than it is to do slight amounts of passive damage.

They really should have it so only certain moves (say Fire Blast for Charizard) become G-Max moves so Fire and Water mons don't get cucked so hard.

When Lando-T comes back I'll be using him. For now though, doesn't it make more sense to have an Intimidate user who benefits from sand? Arcanine would cover Grass, but he's only a bit faster than Krookodile who gets the Sp. Def buff from sand.

I am considering Gastrodon on the team to stop Water attacks, but it's 4x weak to Grass.

I used to think this, but the Kanto starter trio's G-Max attacks are always better than their weather setting moves, especially with now good weather setters existing for fire, water, and grassy terrain respectively, 1/6th total health for four turns is amazing, especially coupled with other status conditions.

Does well into TTar/Exca with Torkoal Venusaur opening to remove sand. Marowak/Dusclops do well into Rillaboom leads. Will-O-Wisp is taken to deal with physical attackers.

Does anyone else feel similarly? Like I don't even think it's just that I got gud again, I think my brain just didnt want to work with earlier strats before expansion, which is a similar struggle I was having with Tapu terrain wars in SuMo.

It's meant as counterplay for opposing TR teams. If I lead Porygon-Z and Clef against a TR team and they choose to set it on Turn 1, Clef's After You means P-Z can get a Max Strike off for free and nuke something quickly on Turn 2

On an unrelated note I’ve found Sash Hatterene and Amoonguss to be a really reliable way to get Trick Room up, but the two are a bit passive once it’s actually set up. Was thinking Eject Button Amoong with Regen could be an interesting way to remedy this and bring in something like Alolawak, thoughts?

I see a good deal of your team's damage stemming from special attacks. Not nessicarilly a bad thing, but keep in mind if you plan on fighting TR, many Porygon2s are running Eerie Impulse these days. Honestly I might try to make Incineroar have higher attack but see how he treats you currently.

Got up to Master Rank Doubles pretty easily again this time around. I cannot understand how anyone could possibly struggle to get out of the lower ranks, i got here in less than 30 matches and about half my losses were due to me making dumb mistakes (like trying to use Fake Out on Psychic Terrain Indeedee) rather than my opponents playing well.

Don't know if i can be bothered playing too much of Master though, so far all I've seen is Trick Room and Rain, which i admit are pretty satisfying to beat with my Porygon-Z one-shotting everything team (with Prankster Fake Tears support ensuring nothing survives) but i feel like I'm just always playing from behind by not having either TR or auto-weather myself, which is kinda boring.

You don't have to make it the center of your team, but it's very strong right now with all the physical attackers and psyspam in the meta. I run it AV with Snarl, which lets it easily tank neutral strong damage like G-Max Smite from Life Orb Hatt, Dazzling Gleams, and whatnot so it can Snarl it and turn those moves into 4HKOs. It's also a great answer to most Rillabooms, who sometimes run Superpower or High Horsepower, but even those moves aren't enough to kill it. Meanwhile, it can usually OHKO it with Flare Blitz if it's physically invested enough.

And Goth with Imprison, TR and Expanding Force fucking completely shuts down psyspam leads. Even if they carry Dark Pulse, she can take the hits and allow Incini to clean up the dipshits.

If you're running Whimsicott it's good to invest in some speed. 28 EVs lets it outspeed max speed base 100 Pokemon like Charizard under Tailwind. 60 is kinda weird but it's sort of popular. I personally don't investing into Speed unless you want to specifically outspeed stuff under Tailwind.

Lots of things. Cinderace, Durant, Terrakion, Cobalion, Dracovish, Urshifu, Excadrill, Duraludon, Porygon-Z, Bisharp, Charizard, and Dracozolt are all top threats under Tailwind. Slow things with 60 base Speed can also sweep under Tailwind if they're invested correctly.

The problem with Coalossal sets or weakness policy sets in general is you waste a turn to set up, which usually means losing one mon or at least a momentum loss, and if your opponent does work around it, you’re just kind of out 2 Pokémon.

That being said, you could try some Harvest meme sets with either Exeggutor form

You run Imprison, Expanding Force, Protect and Trick Room. You Imprison and stop enemy Trick Room, or in the off chance the other team is faster (or sets up a tailwind) you use Trick Room.

No unfortunately. Magic Bounce on a Trick Room setter is a major reason why Hatt is good. You cannot Taunt her, put her to Sleep, or otherwise inflict status directly to stop Trick Room. It also prevents people from directly lowering her SpAtt with something like Parting Shot. Without it, Hatt has trouble with a lot of things.

God speed, I've been breeding for a shiny Hatt too and I'm afraid of this shit happening. I had this happen with Charizard as well, breeded 3 shines in total before I got a HA one.

Taunt is very strong on Talonflame and also gives you an answer to Trick Room. It's really nice to have a very fast, non-prankster Taunt because it works with Psychic Terrain up and on Dark Types.

Give Krookodile Choice Scarf and he'll just one shot Indeedee and you just have Talonflame Taunt the TR setter.

252+ Atk Krookodile High Horsepower vs. 0 HP / 0 Def Indeedee: 133-157 (98.5 - 116.2%) -- guaranteed OHKO

So either have Fake Out, Knock Off, and/or Taunt and you can stop these "mad lads".

No one is gonna potentially sack 2 Pokemon just to Trick Room. I have rarely seen Focus Sash on Indeedee. Your best plays is. Ive seen more Hatterene and Indeedee pairs vs Porygon2 and Indeedee pairs.

Rillaboom + Incineroar
Krookodile + Talonflame
Duraludon + Literally anything with high Attack.

Possibly the best counters to TR setters.
