>>44104924>Overworld encounters don't work in Pokémon. Pokémon is about the surprise of meeting a Pokémon in the grass.First of all, no, you are incorrect, not only is that opinion subjective, it's also hardly founded on any logic. I have been playing since gen 2, I completely fail to see how "Muh suprise" changes anything about the process. All it does is remove the RNG, thus saving time, and adds an element of spectacle to the environment by making the world feel lived in by actually showing the the wild pokemon that are supposedly roaming around through out all the old games, actually in the process of roaming around. It also indirectly promotes a more open and explorable map style, but that's besides the point.
I gotta ask, can you please explain why it is that running around in grass and waiting for rng to produce an encounter by ripping you from the overworld is somehow integral to the pokemon experience? Can you explain why the worlds NEED to be empty and why actually showing what the pokemon having always been implied to do on weaker hardware actually ruins the experience? Because good god, I would love to hear it
