Showdown is an improvement in almost every way.
Proper matchmaking, better laddering system, visible ladder rankings, faster battle times, less wait time between battles, proper forfeit option, much better battle timer, much much much more playable formats, chat, rematches, challenges, tournaments, proper teambuilder, importing/exporting teams, and it's playable on basically anything that can run a web browser.
The only thing cart has over it is that it's prettier. Even the animations can't really be called an improvement.

oh yeah, love me some garbage static animations on par with showdown with the only exceptions being exclusive to few mons while shit like dynamaxing and stuff like multiple stat changes in a single turn happen step by step, making shit slower than it should be.
Now i'm not the one to defend showdown making the battles look like kids playing with toys but "overall aesthetics" isn't a feature pokemon has, but at least showdown bothers with improving shitty poses like Typhlosion
