I genuinely think music from 4 onwards vastly outperformed Gens 1-3 and my first game was Gold. I know you can probably chalk that up to experience but I feel much more satisfied with the (3)DS era and Gen 8

It's clearly less inspires than previous gen, to the point I'd say it's actually mediocre. Yet, it still has some enjoyable to good if not great tunes, expecially for battles.

Marnie’s theme is great and Hop’s battle theme reminds me a bit of Colosseum music, which is a good thing. I just wish I didn’t have to associate the song with Hop.

I feel like Gen 8's music is just as shitty as Gen 6's mainly because it reuses so many melodies that many songs just end up forgettable. Which is a shame because I thought Gen 7's soundtrack was a return to form and one of the better ones

The only game whose music I personally didn't enjoy one bit was SM/USUM's. Other than that, I think every gen has an amazing OST, yes, even SwSh. Every game is so full of both bangers and also very nice and calm music for towns or other natural landscapes. It's the one thing I can always trust these games to excel at.
