Anime =/= Games
Fights in games are limited by mechanics, Fights in anime are limited by imagination of writters. I don't see ppl crying about when Ash's Charizard defeated Gary's Blastoise by heating rocky ground around him into fucking lava. Or when in Sinnoh Ash invented ENTIRE FUCKING NEW MOVE that to this day still don't exist in games.

Like, crying about something happening in anime that can't be recreated in game is just plain retarded.

Tapu Koko fought Pikachu on three occasions and on the first match it would have won by a landslide, in the second match Pikachu was able to damage it so of course in the third match it'd be a close one with Pikachu barely making it out on top

It has nothing to do with the games.
The lava thing was pretty smart and feels more grounded to reality (still fantasy of course) and Ash v Gary is also criticized a lot nowdays.
The sinnoh move had a lot build up and was more meaningful because Ash invented it inspired by pokemon contests.
The counter the counter just feels uninspired

Cooldown, duh. That's why you always have a second counter ability that you don't let anybody know about. Then when somebody counters your counter and lets their guard down because they expected you to let your guard down you counter their countering of your counter.
Or you trade away your pokemon for a choice banded Ononokuso and 0-thought kill everything.
