What went wrong with Slowbro-Galar? It was hyped to be the Clefable killer after it was dominating the pre-DLC meta, but now it sees little to no usage in OU and is outclassed by its normal form.

Because instead of being a special move that can target physical defense, shell side arm just becomes a physical attack. That's completely impractical since you'd have to split EV and nature resources to make use of its unique effect, only to find out that slowbro doesn't have any way to boost its physical attack. So even chansey doesn't justify trying to make use of SSA's physical hit.

Clefable was only broken because the pre-DLC meta was low test as fuck, once DLC reintroduced old staples and made the power level rise this issue was remedied. Even a Fighting-Dark Pokémon like Urshifu can now heavily pressure Clefable. Finch was unironically very wise in suspecting Dracovish and just waiting for Clefable, even though all of /vp/ and even many on Smogon shat on him for that.

That's not how it works. It picks which stat to attack from based on which one will do more damage on that turn. Which means when you're fully invested in special attack it will be special 99% of the time unless the opponent's physical defense is really abysmal or a special condition like Light Screen tips the opponent's special defense high enough to make SSA switch to physical. And if you don't want to deal with all that you can just use Sludge Bomb, it's the same move with less steps.

Or you can just use Sludge Bomb and be done with it.

Yes, and that physical hit in that scenario is running off an uninvested 100 attack stat with no stat boosts or items. Which is basically worthless. Which is why shell side arm is kinda lame compared to what it could've been. Which is the point I was making.

Slowbro Galar is actually decent in OU, retards just shouting its trash because they'd rather bring Slowbro to immediately click Teleport 20 times in a match.
GBro can switch on a couple defensive mons with impunity and set up on their faces or just scare them out

Going off its Physical Attack actually can do more damage than going off its Special, even when accounting for Stat boosts.
The only issue is that SSA can be tricked easily, typically through burns, as it only looks at Stats and Stages rather than damage reduction and multiplication.

Like if Slowbro were to get Tough Claws somehow, SSA would ignore the 1.33x boost to contact moves Tough Claws receives despite becoming a contact move when physical.

and that matters how? If you invested special and the move for that turn switched to physical that means speical for that turn would have done less damage than physical the move won't fuck you over

Unfortunately, it doesn't take into account screens, or items, or burn. So if you're running a special set, especially if you're running Specs, you should usually run Sludge Bomb instead, because it's just not worth burn potentially screwing you over. If it were smart enough to take into account burn, choice items, and screens, then yes it would almost always be worth running, since it would only switch to physical/special in the circumstances where it is absolutely guaranteed to do more damage than otherwise.

Trust me on this, tank without aggro/CC can barely be called a tank in its purest form.

In Pokemon the closest thing you get to a tank are Bulky Attackers.

It doesn't really have much place in OU defensively (95/95/70 isn't particularly bulky), and offensively it is too underwhelming with 100/100. The typing itself isn't bad, but also not great either. It is a very 'ok' sort of mon.

The Quick Claw + Quick Draw sets are amusing, especially with B-Drum, but inconsistent. It won't be until it drops into RU/NU that we see more traditional sets being run.
