If you're in the mood for more Gen II romhacks try Bronze,Bronze 2 and Gold '97.Prism is alright but it's postgame remains unfinished storywise.

If you want Gen III try out Rocket Edition,Clover,Saiph,Kanlara Ultimate,Gaia and GS Chronicles.

Finally I wanted to mention these demos you should keep an eye on:Coral,CountryBalls,Sovereign of the Skies,Saffron,Sors,Spark Yellow,Ruby Giratina's Legend and Quarantine Crystal.

It hurts that this is a buggy game that will sometimes corrupt your save file for no reason.

I lost FIVE hours of progress and catching one of my best party members. I need to see if I can find the save file patch and hope that fixes it.

I don't think I've ever complained about the map design in a pokemon game. Ever. But Grape is just a mess to navigate. This guy put a nugget bridge copy, grass, and a department store between the Pokemon center and a gym. You do have to enter the store, take the elevator to the basement, and exist to reach the gym. Tedious as hell.
The game is hard and grinding is annoying as fuck. Trainers are way above wild pokemon.
The story is quite edgy.
But Grape is a gen 1 hack so at least it has SOUL going for it. I like that whenever you damage a pokemon a little number pops up showing how much damage a pokemon took. Gen 1 Wrap is back though.

Yes Pokemon Coral and Saffron look very amazing, I love the Gen II Poke Games, I think they are my favourite.

even if you’re a newfag and don’t get all of the ‘in-jokes’, it’s an overall good time.
I would personally recommend Gaia. It’s the only other ‘original game’ that I’ve really cared for, other than Clover and Prism. I more often play QOL hacks. So, in that department, I’d recommend Red++, and/or Red and Blue DX (two separate games - there are some differences to which one you choose).

Its been a while but I remember loving PokeSweets and Toxic Purple.
More recently I enjoyed the romhack that turned Gold into a reimagining of Gold Beta and had that one TCG Imposter Oak character as a major plot element. It was wild.

Yeah idk about this one since I like to raise a lot of different pokemon and keep grinding to a minimum so not sure if these difficulty hacks are the best choice for me. If there's nothing else though I'll take it, I've heard the DS hacking scene is very bare bones

Grape has a lot going for it, but >>44131613 raises a lot of good points. The map design can definitely get extremely frustrating, with a lot of HM use needed just to get around the region in the generation where using HMs is the most tedious. However, I would say that the difficulty curve becomes a bit more reasonable after the first few gyms.

One thing that Grape has going for it, though, is the sense of exploration. Very few hacks have managed to capture the excitement that I felt exploring around in the old Pokemon games, but Grape does an excellent job of it. There are a ton of secrets to find, some of which are pretty obscure. I recommend it just based on that alone.

Renegade Platinum is actually perfect for that. There's a dedicated NPC that's used to quickly grind pokemon and EV train them. It's easy to take a pokemon you just got and get it up to speed with the rest of your party.

Fool's Gold is really good for such a simple hack. It's a Crystal hack that basically gives all 251 Kanto/Johto pokemon alternate forms with new types and movesets. Most of the new designs are well made, and the sprites are quite good. There's even a few new areas, which generally fit in well. The only real negitive is that some of the new designs can look more like fakemon than the actual pokemon it's supposed to be, but the vast majority of them are good

Interesting choices that they made, but it feels like it's going a little too hard for the edge factor in a lot of places. Stuff also just escalates like crazy and you, some random-ass grunt, get handed a bajillion promotions just because you happened to be in Giovanni's office once.

Didn’t see any box art for Sour Crystal, and I’m autistic about my rom collection all having box art, so I spent 5 minutes in Ps making this. Not gonna lie. It’s pretty ugly.
But it serves its purpose and I can easily distinguish it from the vanilla crystal box art.
Oh, and I guess I’m recommending Sour Crystal or whatever. It’s an improvement hack.

XG suffers later on when the level curve gets really fucking steep
at the cipher key lair the last 4 trainers have multiple 2-4 level jumps each. but overall id highly recommend it, especially for the last few fights which get extremely fucking intense. its improved a lot from previous versions where it handed you a metang at the start along side a bunch of other bullshit
