It's people like you who keep apologizing for Gamefreak and allow them to keep shoveling out minimal effort games every year. You know it's ok to ask for a higher quality product from a brand, right? It's ok to expect more. Pokemon is the highest grossing multimedia franchise on the planet. They can afford to make animations. Especially when we have examples of companies doing it 10-15 years ago. There's no excuse.

It's funny because this is the first game that James Turner was involved with, specifically the prerendered preview that was created for internal use for developers to shoot for. Obviously they fell short significantly but maybe if the Gamefreak chinks continue to lose undeserved influence on Pokemon, maybe we will someday have something like this

I don't care for the developer, but graphically Game Freak doesn't know what identity to give the series. My suggestion is to go full cel-shading - it made Wind Waker look cool AF and Dragonball FighterZ showed that it is still awesome in the modern era.

The easy (and correct) answer is to label Gamefreak incompetent, but you also have to remember PBR was purely a battle simulator with no adventure mode or anything so they focused on the spectacle first and foremost. That being said GF really need to be taken off the series as SS is a complete embarrassment.

I think that SS's graphics aren't unified enough, personally. The models themselves look really good but the overworld textures are really rough and clash hard with the quality of the actual mons. Not all bad though, the towns and buildings still look pretty good. But their natural textures could use some work, they're really scuffed ESPECIALLY in the wild area. The berry trees have the same clash problem. Ballonlea is really pretty though, Hammerlocke too.
