I actually like the way pokemon games looked in gen 1-5 and think their graphics are perfectly acceptable. No one dermands graphically intensive pokemon games, most nintendo games are notoriously simple in the graphics department (See: animal crossing)
It's a choice to not focus on graphics. What people have a problem with is clearly unpolished graphics, it's why people often say they prefer goddamn let's go over SwSh graphics, SwSh sets a standard for itself in the game itself and fails to keep up that standard for many areas in the game. Stop pretending it's the same shit
