For example ignoring lore:
Sawsbucks design essentially comes down to just a deer with grass.
Leafeon is just a fox/cat thing with leaves growing out of it.
Typhlosion is just a badger with fire coming from it's neck.
Electivire is just straight up painted yellow with it's tail referencing electrical cables.
They're designs really aren't that deep.
This is specifically true for animalistic grass types and electric types imo. Since actual animals don't grow plants on them. Sceptile was ironically the first grass type that started this animal + leaves trend. Pikachu is just a stylized rodent painted yellow, Serperior is just a green snake with a royal attitude. Nothing about it is grass type besides being green. Shaymin is just a hedgehog with grass on its back instead of spines.
Imo there's nothing really wrong with designing a mon like the above examples as long as it looks good.
