Overall Concept:

Boring how so? I'm kind of interested in refining this idea just for the sake of my own amusement.

Part of the idea that's laid out is that the game still has the standard 8 Badges loop, though in a different context (the Gym Leaders aren't native to the region, but rather each from previous Gens who've come to the region to explore and help establish the League). Towns exist but with the exception of the region's central city are all kind of frontier based and in need of resources that you can help with.

The game wouldn't be pure open world, it would still follow a mostly linear progression but with more emphasis on exploration than "get from A to B to C" as in classic pokemon games.

Takes place in a region with a Roman and Vatican aesthetic

The legendaries are the gatekeepers of the 'spirit world' and the 'underworld'. The former is water/physic and the latter is dark/fire.

The villain wants to destroy the respective box legend to put an end to the life cycle so nobody has to die ever again

Gym leaders battle in Colosseums

Your rival is a haughty ojou-sama complete with drills

The champion, named Maximus, is a grumpy old boomer who hates how latter generations are weak ass pussies incapable of getting shit done

I actually kind of like the driving motivation of the villain you've described here. Like, it borders on edginess, except that you can pretty easily spin it into something more kid friendly about accepting the cycles of life instead of fighting against them. Really it's not much more edgy than, say, The Lion King.

Colosseum battles would be cool, especially since real Roman colosseems could be flooded, which works well for Pokemon.

What mechanical changes or improvements would you make?

The entire isle of armor functions like the wild area. There are named areas, and things like caves, forests, and giant oceans and small islands to find. And the whole area is seamless without loading screens besides going in buildings.

After playing too much ACNH, I could see a settlement idea working, witth the twist that each player is free to do whatever to the region. Every region being unique to each player. That's rad. that's how I picture the game I proposed working, with multiple connected Wild Areas to explore. The main Wild Area is a huge rocky expanse of wilderness and grassland, but each other wild area would be its own biome. Again, with Xenoblade as the inspiration.

It's heading in that direction but I still think there's value in a strong, well crafted single player experience (insert "what does GameFreak have to do with that?"). Pokemon is fundamentally about *your* journey, and building the game as "this is your journey, plus ten thousand other people on your server" feels like it's lifting the veil too much. Plus MMOs don't exactly have a great record in creating environments that are either interesting to explore or cozy to hang around in, which should both be prerequisites for a new Pokemon game.

Not saying that the MMO wouldn't work, just that it needs a lot of thought put into it.

I sort of overlooked this at first but the more I think about it the more of an appeal it sort of has. The comfy post-apocalypse idea is pretty cool. So basically the game is about helping rebuild your community after a huge (no doubt Legendary pokemon-created) disaster, with the League Challenge being kind of a means to an end?

The region got fucked because humnz bad and the MC just travels and meets people.
It would be like
MC is in an small village and talks to a farmer. The farmer tells him that a Pokémon from the ruins escaped and is killing cows. So MC goes to catch the Pokémon to get a reward and end up exploring the ruins.
But the post apocalyptic setting is an excuse to make biopunk cities. The region is mostly comfy exept for some dangerous parts.
What's important is the characters and their lives, how they ended in the situation they are in and what can they do about that, if they can do anything.

I mainly ask because this really just punishes the early game over the late game. Unless you grind yourself into the stratosphere against Gym 1, you're going to face a situation where a new player can't easily level to give himself a needed edge against the start of the game, because the Gym leader will always be at your level or higher. Eventually you can level to the tipping point where your team's access to moves and higher evolutions trumps the raw levels given to the Gym Leaders, but that seems kind of tedious. Does that make sense?

Or what if the scaling worked both ways for all Gym leaders? You can level up to and above a Gym leader by let's say +3 levels, but after that they scale with you while maintaining that gap. That way you can grind to get an edge, but only so far, which encourages you to move on with the game.

That’s a good idea, but I feel it incentivizes story progress too much - I’d like the option to be there for a player to just disregard the story and explore to their heart’s content if they choose to. Having the first Gym Leader be under the player by 4 levels, then the second by 3, and so on allows the player to still have an edge in the earlygame and be able to challenge the Gyms whenever they feel like it

I guess the question is whether you'd rather the game reward you for powerlevelling with a relatively trivial fight, or whether you'd rather it acknowledge your effort while maintaining a certain degree of challenge. Both work because there's a certain joy that comes with steamrolling an ordinarily difficult boss encounter.

Rate my game idea:
- Games theme is Justice
- Pokemon Chaos and Order
- Chaos legendary is a Minotaur based on Yama, Hindu personification of justice. It's motiff is Retributive Justice. Is more harsh. Has one big horn and one smaller horn.
- Order legendary is a Ram/goat based on Dike. It's motiff us rehabilitative justice. It's more fair in it's judgement. Like other is has on bigger horn and on smaller one.
- When they fuse their horn motiff becomes libra scales.

- Starters theme is Judge, Jurry and Executioner. Grass type is a Elephant that evolves to use a wooden hammer out of trunk. Fire type is a snake that controls a lesser will-o-wisp souls made out of shedded skin. Fire/Ghost. Water type is a Shrew that's half poison resembles a medieval torturer. Half Poison.

Games story centers around seeking justice for an oppressed group of people. There are two evil teams, one is the one that's treating people like trash and is a big region spanding business that's diplomatic, the other is a more radical group that wants to seek justice who is more destructive. Elite 4 are based on/named after Justice League members. Clark, Bruce, Diana, Barry, etc.

this was actually a hypothetical gen 8 + fakemon concept dex that I made around 4 years ago. honestly haven't given it a proofread since then so there might be some questionable stuff in there.

i realize "team storm" aged really badly due to the fact that it's a german region and the connotations of the world. it's actually from "Sturm und Drang" but it doesn't help when you're fighting the uphill battle to prove that your evil team aren't nazis anyways.

thought about maybe making it into a game although i've been flirting with the idea of a south korea region also

I think I'd probably go with "Team Surge". I think their whole idea was based on using technology to change the world for the better. There's a rough plot skeleton there but it was mainly just basic/shitty ideas. I also realized I had a fire bunny+water lizard starter which kind of got btfo by gen 8. Team Surge is great, yeah.

I really like the driving motivation of the Team and of Aurelius, though. I think you can sort of play up their nature as the trend tech guys by making them the developers of your Dex, Pokeballs and other useful items in-game, so that their ubiquity is something felt by the player, not just informed on them.

Also I didn't expect a whole short dex in this. Gotta say I dig your names, I'm terrible at coming up with Fakemon and don't even try.

Hyperabilities are an interesting new take, though frankly I feel like there are lots of regular abilities that would work just as well, purely because of matching up super well with certain stats, moves and normal abilities. Like, imagine if you could a Ludicolo with Rain Dish *and* Swift Swim at the same time? Absolutely terrifying.

Maybe that could be a part of this mechanic; perhaps in addition to Hyper Ability cores there are regular Ability Cores that work with the same rules as well which can be used on any Pokemon. You could make some severely broken set-ups like that.

I always tought about a pokemon paleo / neo (for paleolithic and neolithic) where in a region a bunch of wormhole lets you travel some routes in the present or in the past. You get to catch fossil pokemon in the wild plus you can have new prehistorical form for the pokemon we already know. The legendary pokemon would obviously be the cause of all these portals.

hyper abilities might be a bit silly in hindsight, they were just sort of there as the generational gimmick, i had a lot of fun naming them though. the ability core idea is nice and maybe a more balanced way to do things, but then again it takes away some uniqueness from pokemon and trends in a very metagamey direction.

i'm glad you liked the plot as well, re-reading it feels a bit too edgy but maybe there's something there

Thank you I live for recognition! I started that with the idea that there were a lot of designs out there that are begging to be put in the games but aren't for whatever reason, and that the recent regions left a lot to the imagination, so I came up with everything I could think of and put it together. For mechanics, all I want mostly is just for everything to be in one game not scattered. To me that means VS seeker returns, Pokeride and following Pokemon are back and in the style of LGPE, and everything that SWSH added like wild areas and PC boxes are accessible from the menu.

I think that we have everything in the series already to make it work, I don't want to be like GF and make the same thing again from the ground up with a new coat of paint. My big concern is that the region design and route design has really sucked lately. The only mechanic I would add in that I could think of is I would bring back a more interactive Rotom minimap but make the routes actually warrant it, and you can also toggle on/off with the minus button.

The question is, what kind of dad is he? Is he a tough love mentor type, or is he, like, Jecht and while he loves he he's kind of a dick anyway?

Overall I really dig the idea, my first thought is to lean into it making it like Pokemon X-Files and have the bad Team be government Men in Black type agency trying to suppress and control the knowledge of extraterrestrial life.

Other USregion concept anon here, this reminded me that I wanted to add that the legendaries were also Native American inspired, White Buffalo, and a Black Turtle based on the concept of North America being "turtle island". They are meant to be a homage to BW. But I like your idea a little better.

Maybe the spirit bear can have two forms and the UB can be more like the Necrozma of the game, or maybe just do one version?

She would be a 30 years old lady who was in love with herself and didn't want to get old so she searched for a certain legendary Pokemon to make herself unable to get old. She thougth this would be an easy task cause she succeded in every thing she did. Not only she was beautiful, she was smart and even a great pkmn trainer. But the legendary mon sweeped her team and turned her into an eternal loli just cuz it would be funny haha.
That fucked her up really hard cause even if she was a cute loli, she would never be the most beautiful woman. Even if she was as smart as an adult, she would never be the smartest. She would never be able to show the world and herself how great she could be, how far she could get.
Then she meets the MC and tells him to find the legendary. I don't know how the quest would work tho. I'm not game designer. But it shouldn't be an infodump, those sucks.
The quest ends with Prof. happy about being able to be a Turbostacy again but sad cause she will get old. She will try to cope working really hard and taking the league challenge again. At one point she will challenge MC with a powerful overleveled team and fucking stomp him. So one of the main objectives of MC is to get his title back from that bitch.
It's dumb now that I think about it, but could work if her story is told propperly. Her principal character flaw is being extremelly narcisist. Once she regains her true form she will fill her lab with mirrors do she can contemplate her beauty at every moment.

Pokemon has been moving in a waifuzisation direction for a while now. I think they should just suck it up and make dating an integral part of the storyline. Rivals are obviously your long-term love interests. Every battle is accompanied by a date quest with branching dialogues. If you play your cards right, the climax of the story would be accompanied by a tearful love declaration.
Some gym leaders could also be romanceable, just side flings. Most wouldn't give you the time of the day until you beat them, and then you'd unlock a date activity related to their interests.
Also every romanceable character would obviously have a romantic interactive sex scene.
You know, just to really corner the coomer market. I mean they've got such a good hold on it already, might as well go all out.

Just a heads up for any people that actually think the USA will ever get another mainline region.

A wild west region will never happen.
Alola only included that little western town area, so they wouldn't have to make one.
They even added a not-grand canyon to make it even less likely

California isn't happening either, they already used Hollywood in unova, and anything else would be better suited for a mexico region (yes including some creatures like the cactus cat)

The only places left are the pnw which, maybe in a canadian region as a small empty side area.

And the american south (why fucking bother? Some mons based on things from here can just go somewhere else like the bell witch, tailypo, santer, etc can easily fit into a japanese, Australian, whatever region)

But yeah, North America is very unlikely to inspire more than a small bit of a larger region.
I think a generally Mediterranean region could be pretty cool. Lots of fishing villages, maybe even a map concept built around an inland sea. Could have a war torn hellscape of death and misery on the East shore, might be neat.

A prequel RTS that takes place in the distant past of the main games. Pokeballs and modern technology don't exist, so taming and training Pokemon are alot more difficult to achieve and true human-pokemon bonds are far rarer, with Pokemon being relegated to a servant class to ancient civilizations.

The game would focus on self-contained stories, that mostly happen in the same era:

-Taking place several decades after the deaths of the mythic Twin Heroes of Unova, the land of Unova is scarred from battle and ideological conflicts that have lasted close to a century, with the descendants forming clashing societies based around ideals and truth. The protagonist must rally the human and pokemon inhabitants of this region and must conquer the region in the name of either faction, subjugating and diminishing the other faction in the process.

-A holy war between Sinnoh and Johto, with missionaries from Sinnoh taking it upon themselves to civilize the backwater tribes in the Johto and Kanto region to the far south, so that more of humanity will find salvation in the Light of Arceus. Heavy on the lore and callbacks to events in other games and the anime.

Still trying to think on what to do with Hoenn or Kalos. I really dislike the ORAS continuity but the idea of an ancient war devastating the region has some potential.

Gameplay would take inspiration from both Starcraft and Fire Emblem

If it's a sequel it would take place many years after the events of the first two games. Sometime after the destruction of Cipher has left a power vacuum in Orre that new criminal factions eventually take advantage of. The lab that the protagonist from XD was apart of was attacked by Cipher in retaliation for the destruction of their operations in the second game, and its ruins are frequently overrun by scavengers and criminals hoping to profit off of some long-abandoned pokemon purification technology.

The protagonist is a former member of an upstart criminal organization in Orre that was attacked shortly before the events of the game. The MC arrives in Phenac City hoping to learn more about the nature of the attack, and possibly even take revenge on those responsible. They suffer a psychic link with Shadow Pokemon in the beginning of the game, and are given the option to either purify Shadow Pokemon, or corrupt them further for their benefit. Two different endings play out depending on which gameplay style the MC pursues, with them freeing the region crime the criminals plaguing it or becoming the new leader of Cipher, lording over the region once more with an army of Shadow Pokemon at your disposal.

Tonally, it would be closer to Colosseum than XD

Your idea syncs up very nicely with what I wrote in the Google Doc in the 2nd post here. Very nice, Camping with Pokemon is peak cozy.

I like the idea of seamless transitions into battle on the main map itself, but sort of struggle to realize it in my mind, to be honest. Like there are certain game spaces where throwing out an Onyx would just be super awkward in that situation. Not sure how you can sensibly visualize it.

Hmmmm, *interesting*. I see the point of it, and the draw too, but I keep waffling back and forth between whether it's a good adjustment to the system vs whether it risks a tipping point in battle complexity. It doubles one particular variable, and a lot of berries can have pretty dramatic effects on combat (mostly the element dampening ones).

Honestly? Initially I thought "ew", but the more I thought about it the more I think it's not a terrible idea. Being depleted of PP is really an annoyance in single player rather than a real strategic choice, and never really factors into competitive play at all. So maybe it would work!

In the earlier maps, players would have the chance to capture low level pokemon, like Geodudes, Ratattas, and maybe a few pokemon that could evolve into something potentially powerful late game.

By capture, I mean literally capture: players would have invest resources in nets, chains, and other equipment that would work as "traps" that have a certain percentage chance of subduing them. Other factors that would increase the chances of a successful capture would be different types of bait, and allocating human forces subdue the Pokemon manually. However, if the human forces are too high level the Pokemon will detect a threat and flee the area, reducing chance of capture. Different Pokemon provide different benefits and changes to gameplay:

Smaller size pokemon with the right stats can act as scouts, sizing out enemy bases with a lower risk of detection than your (un-upgraded) scouts, and once evolved, certain water pokemon have the ability to transport units against large fields of water. In late-game maps, much farther into the campaign, certain flying types and dragon types can act as aerial transport, and provide a massive offensive advantage against enemy forces caught off guard. You are right, I just really love the Okami's encounter system. Maybe when the encounter start, entire area will change to combat zone, which will flat out all the unnecessary environment (bush, tree, house, cliff, other pokemon..) and change the background to match with current terrain, player will automatically run back into their position to throw ball. Think about persona 5's encounter instead.

Rock and Ground type pokemon can act as infantry across mountainous regions that most normal units would have to move around, grass and poison Pokemon could move in forest terrain faster than your human units and get a buff to stealth, and fire/electric pokemon are basically environmental damage dealers, strong against certain enemy types, and severely weak against others, but might have less environmental/movement benefits unless you're playing on a fire themed/chargestone cave type level.

In the beginning, it would be alot easier for players to merely invest all of their time and resources into their human units, but with each progressing map the complexity will increase, and eventually enemies will begin employing Pokemon against you, so you'd be constantly put on the defensive for the late game. Surviving units would eventually develop certain specializations/talent trees that would allow them to be more proficient in defending against certain Pokemon attacks, or detecting enemy scouts, but for that to happen your forces would need to continuously survive each battle, unless you wanted to throw low level cannon fodder at the enemy.

For Unova, gradually conquering territory and pursuing optional side quests would be the main goal, and ideally there would be some type of branching path system for a handful of levels. Depending on what faction you pick will determine map layout. The Truth faction (Science/Industry faction) will have their capital in Port Castel (=Castelia City), and the Ideals faction (Nature/Ghost/Spiritual) will be located in Holy Grounds (ancient village of the Twin Heroes). Early game campaigns for each faction would begin with securing an alliance with the desert tribes near Port Castel or [...]

Well gotta say that's a new one, haven't thought about that idea yet.

Having to defeat every trainer in an an area to face the Gym leader *sounds* tedious, except that most players do that *anyway* unless they're playing for speed. maybe there could be an alternate way of challenging the leader? Like either you defeat every trainer, thus proving your grit and determination, or you accomplish some crazy task, thus proving your wits and courage?

Also the team's motivation seems simple, but in all honesty I kind of like the directness to it. It helps that people in real life do that all the time, so it's not as if it's overly cartoony. If anything it's reality that's turned into a caricature.

The first few maps would function as tutorials, but after that they'd expand to the size of Korhal City from Starcraft 2, for example. The size of the map would generally expand and contract depending on how important it is to the story, so neither would it be stupidly large or stupidly small. But yeah, Korhal from Starcraft HotS would be a good reference.

Early maps would provide players with access to the most basic types (ground, water, grass, dragon, and electricity being the most common), but as the maps progress players would have the option to capture more unique/powerful pokemon, if they'd be willing to sacrifice the money and potential loss of units needed to subdue and train them.

I like that idea, maybe they can give you some mini quest to do. As for the number of those trainers, I was thinking 3 in small villages and up to 8 in the biggest city - with the added challenge to find them thus going in every house or streets (fixed points so speedrunners won't have to guess) and speaking to everyone. I always liked the idea of gyms to be the townpeople's communal effort, more than just a building but a symbol of their community and way of life.

The Coast- Proto’s northern coast is the site of one of the region’s largest settlements and the second largest Wild Area. This sunny and vibrant area includes three subareas: The Beach, which is a vast sandy fringe leading off into a tropical forest, which is complete with a large town and a boardwalk; The Chain, a series of larger islands stretching off so distant that one can lose sight of the Proto Region altogether; and the Ocean proper, which includes an area that one can Dive down into to explore a vibrant coral reef.

I originally had the Wetlands and the Underground caverns as their own areas, for a total of 8, but I figured that was stretching it a bit and they didn't really seem like they had all that much meat on them and could be easily merged with other zones. Like imagine escaping the howling winds of the Ridge and finding a sprawling complex of caverns to explore instead.

Would be neat af to see what the legendaries and theming for those games would be too. Like a card suit or casino motif for everything would be awesome, or even something like Alice in Wonderland. I could totally see the Ace legendary being a white rabbit, "queen of hearts," or a knight -- all based on Alice -- while the Joker could have the stereotypical gentleman thief archetype we see in anime and games all the time (think P5 Joker, Lupin III, or Spider from Mega Man X). I kind of really like that idea. The theme could even be the battle between relying on "luck" and relying on "skill," so you could have that played out by the legendaries where the "Ace" legendary is highly trained and has mastered battling but its weaknesses are glaring, while the "Joker" legendary is a "Jack of all trades, master of none" that relies on pure luck to win. And then you have the villainous team who wants to get some McGuffin that swings odds in their favor or whatever, and the whole region lives by this code of "luck favors the prepared" or something.

I really, really want this now.

And yeah, PP serves zero purpose right now other than limiting your use of powerful moves in a stall metagame (which is the only place it really matters). I think it would be interesting to jump lump it all together as one stat, let it regen over time, and see where that takes us. It would definitely make people think twice about spamming certain move combos and maybe even push certain weaker moves into the forefront because they consume less "Stamina." Who knows!

Not much of an effort post, but this is an idea that I think Pokemon games should have had. Legendaries like Palkia, Dialga, Ho-Oh etc. can't be caught and instead are big boss battles. Obviously the mechanics of battles would need to be different, but I never really liked that you could catch and command Pokemon that are practically deities like Arceus. Lesser legendaries like Heatran, the Regi's (aside from maybe Regigigas), Latios/Latios could be caught.

I'd also like Challenge mode brought back. Some changes would be that you'd match the amount of Pokemon your opponent is using and can only use the same number of items they do. So if you're facing a gym leader that only has 2 Pokemon, you could only use at most 2 Pokemon. I think for official battles (gym battles especially), this makes a lot of sense.

A game that still has a story to follow, but is more exploration focused would be cool as well. One last idea I have for replayability would be deciding the type of trainer you're aiming to be. Haven't given it much thought, but aside from just taking the standard gym challenge, there's an option to be a researcher instead. You'd still catch and battle with Pokemon, but you're goal wouldn't be becoming champion of the region.

The recurring character is a reformed celebrity who tries to push the player to recruitment/enlightenment by pressuring them and asking for impossibly high donations. The final boss is an old money aristocrat who has been using the donations to fund his personal archeological expeditions around the world

The pikachu stand-ins are based on the teams. One is a futuristic experimental cyborg rodent. The other is an ancient feral rodent which is meant to represent the common ancestor of pikachu, plusle, minun, pachirusu etc.

Western border area would have noticeably more Kalos spawns, northwest a few Galar ones. Expansion areas would be a Prussian darker themed area - and a southern beautiful Alpine area representing Austria.

Honestly I agree. The idea that you can just throw a masterball and capture Cthulhu is pretty ridiculous. It worked okay in Gens 1 and 2 when the Legendaries were "A Psychic Cat" and "Some Strong Birds", but now they're the embodiment of primordial forces. For me an ideal legendary should come in two forms: the Plot battle, which is a climatic boss battle that gives the Legendary enough of an advantage that it takes a whole team to bring him down; and a Capture battle, where you actually fight and catch him like a normal Pokemon.

And I really like the challenge team idea, that's something that would be cool to add in to spice up a game. Players have been doing challenge runs for ages, it would be interesting to add actual rules for Monotypes, One Capture per Route (basically modified Nuzlocke; I can't imagine an official game codifying Nuzlocke rules), limit team size, etc... Kind of like doing challenge ascensions in Kingdom of Loathing.

Honestly I hope they do, because one would assume SwSh DLCs would be less resource intensive to create than a full game, while still being a good source of revenue. This would lead one to think that it might allow GameFreak to stretch out the development of the next game a bit more and therefore create a product with *slightly* more quality.

Incidentally I mocked up an animation charter for Bulbasaur and by my estimates he'd only need 18 animations to cover all 53 of his moves. If that holds for every Pokemon it means realistically actual development on true move animations for all 1000 Pokemon is only about 1/3rd of what it might seem to be at first.

I like the idea of the rival being from another region, maybe a super commercialized region like Unova, and is constantly throwing in your face how he's better than your little backwater nothing region, but by the end of the game he's kind of friendly about it. Er, that sounded more confrontational than I meant it to. All I meant was that it's an idea that seems to resonate with people.

I think that maybe it could be less "here's the role you pick at the start of the game, you're pigeonholed into it now" and more alternate ways to progress, kind of like Contests except not requiring a whole different game system. Like, there's a Breeder's League that's all about raising powerful and interesting Pokemon, and they'd give you challenges like "Raise Y Pokemon with X Egg move to Z level", and if you win you get some kind of meaningful reward. And the student part could be the "gotta catch'em all" element where your goal is to go out and catch every unique Pokemon from a given area, or catching one specific Pokemon variation (like one with a specific nature or ability). You can hope into these questlines whenever you want along with the Gym challenge, so you're never stuck in it the whole way through the game while still encouraging exploring other parts of the game beyond "Beat the Champ"

Imagine a region where the central city is a sprawling metropolis, and all the routes have industrial feels to them. Sewers, abandoned factories, mine shafts, harbors, cloud cities, maybe areas similar to Ultra Space... I think it would be cool to build a region that focuses on more humanshape, mechanical, amorphous or human-familiar mons. You could have Pikachu and Growlithe and Pidove alongside Klink, Weezing, Hitmons, Magnezone, Grimer... It could work surprisingly well.

I've been compiling notes on this shit for a while now but I want to focus on postgame. Everyone talks about how there's no postgame anymore so I've thought about what can realistically be put into the postgame for the more hardcore fanbase to be satisfied:
100 Legendary Trainers return from LGPE but they all have a team of 6 Pokémon.
BattleFrontier returns with 5 facilities and PWT
A large post game area is unlocked
The Regional Legendary trio each has their own dungeon like in Gen 1 and you're explicitally told where they are nor are they even mentioned in the story.
Each town and route would have sidequests that you can comeback to.
Looker would return and have at least 7 'cases' that you can help him on.
League cards return but with every important character from the series available in regular and holo rarities.
You can collect/trade figurines of each Pokémon they're acquired in many different ways and some are rarer than others.
PokéPelago would return but expanded to managing and improving a large ranch where all of your boxed Pokémon live. You can see them roaming about and decorate the area. You would also have a house that you could decorate (buy furniture,build a shelf for your figurines, berry garden etc.)

In addition you would also still have things like completing the dex, shiny hunting, and online.

A Pokedex that is actually useful.

Seriously, we've gone 8 generations with 0 innovations on the Pokedex. Its only function has been a completionist checker and a quick way to find where Pokemon are located.

The Pokedex should be a super comprehensive tool that ultimately makes it so people don't have to look up Serebii or Bulbapedia.

Consider the following, at the start of the game, your Pokedex can:

-Tell you the level-up moves of all Pokemon you've caught.
-Tell you the EVs, IVs, Base Stats, Abilities, Experience Growth and Egg Moves/Groups of all Pokemon you've caught.

When you encounter a wild Pokemon, you now have a fifth option to scan it. This takes up a turn, but it reveals that Pokemon's Nature, Base Stats, Ability etc. You can tie a progression system to it, so as you upgrade your Pokedex, your scan also reveals a Pokemon's IVs, current moves, held item, etc.

I'm really just tired of trawling through wikis of info when it should all be accessible in the game.

As of now, the starter abilities are forgettable. Having the Fire starter burst into flames at low health makes them cooler.

I'm *extremely* torn on this. On the one hand, you are 100% correct, it would be very nice if the Pokedex was more useful, and everyone just logs onto Serebii *anyway* to figure out a Pokemon's moveset and level-up, etc., so why bother pretending otherwise?

On the other hand, I'm still kind of a fan of the illusion of mystery, that when you capture a new Pokemon you aren't sure what they're capable of. Again, that illusion is completely bogus since nobody really does that, but it's hard to shake, you know?

The progression system makes sense though and is probably the solution. Maybe it's as simple as "Your Dex has an AI that improves itself the more Pokemon you capture." That way by the time you have a huge swollen PC box, your Dex can really help you sort out everything you need.

All three starters are charmander, except fused with either bulbasaur, squirtle, or pikachu. The champion signature pokemon is perfect charizard, which is a fusion of all of the above pokemon, but also mewtwo, eevee, and lucario as well. You are also given normal charmander fairly early into the game.

Does Canada have enough environmental and geological diversity though? Also these games, when the regions are based on anywhere, rarely ever base it on a *whole* place, it's more about being a specific area (like Gens 1-4 being all designed after specific parts of Japan' landmass). They seem to be trying to increase version differences with SwSh but I don't like the idea of fully exclusive content, so I think this would be a good way to achieve that and not lock anybody out of any gyms, etc.

Fuck yes. We have mountains, underground caves, waterfalls, tundra, beaches. We have islands too. We also have a very rich history of fossils. Not to even mention the rich history of First Nations people.

For some areas of interest: we have Niagara Falls, the Northern Lights, beautiful national parks, Port cities and more.

Imagine this: As a rite of passage you need to go on an isolated trip in the woods where you have a meeting/spiritual experience with a legendary pokemon warning you about the world falling apart due to the villainous team. This starts your journey to try and find out about this team and take them down. Along the way you recruit gym leaders/trainers to help your fight.

I really like the overall idea of a low-key story like what you're describing and mexico is an awesome idea for a setting (see also Pokemon Sage using a general south-american style), though this *does* seem a little edgelordy, if still accurate for a game set in that locale.

Pokemon Future and Past

Italian region, places based off naples, rome, venice, etc

Legendaries are of course, based off Future and Past, on is a unicorn/pegasus fusion with a futuristic look, other is a large bear with many scars and slashes

The games take place 100 years apart, in Pokemon Future, the evil team is team Shadow, people from the past, who came to the future using the power of the other legendary pokemon, in Pokemon Past, the evil team is team Nexus, people from the dystopian future who wish to claim the past in the name of industry.

In Future, the leader of Team Shadow is the champion of Pokemon Past, and vice versa, the evil team admins are the cast of the other game, the other games rival, professor, etc.

The gym leaders are also version exclusive, and megas, z moves, and dynamax are all in the game, in Future, people use dynamax, a more futuristic way of unlocking a pokemon's potential, while in past, the gym leaders use mega evolution.

The champion's names are Ursula in Future, leader of a futuristic World Order esque militia, and in Past, the champion is Kris, a man who prefers to keep his champion title secret, and helps the player progress throughout the story, but isnt revealed to be champion until the end.

So something like this?

>HM stands for Hidden Move. Every Pokemon possesses 2-3 Hidden Moves based on its obvious and natural abilities. Got big claws? It can Cut. Burly Muscles? It can use Strength. Sparkly or fiery? It can Flash. Is it a big ol’ bird? It can Fly, etc… These don’t take up a normal move slot. HMs aren’t taught to Pokemon, rather they’re taught to the player, and once they learn an HM they can use it with any Pokemon compatible with that move. This way, the game once again returns to its roots of the player and his Pokemon exploring the world.

Yeah, I can't shake the feeling that something's been lost with the advent of HM items and the dumb SwSh all-bike. Like nobody *wanted* to have to drag an HM slave around with Cut, Defog and Rock Climb because nobody wants to actually *use* those in battle, so convenience is definitely appreciated. But sacrificing the ideas that you're using your Pokemon to explore and interact with the world seems like too big a loss when better designs could exist.

It's been burned down before you got there. Black ground, burned trees, a few homeless wild Pokemon remain but there are a lot of Ghost and Fire types.

It's not the Elite Four/Champion, they were not aware of it, as they are basically just showpieces to the shady family running the League. They would help you put a stop to the real bad guys, to prove that real trainers can't be bought off.

With the Rival, the idea was that there's very little exposure to the other Region. He would have this innocent childhood ignorance to start with, having had no contact with anyone from the other Region to make his own judgements, going only from what he had heard growing up.

His opinions would change over time as he interacts more with people from that region, such as the Evil Team or the other Region's MC and Rival until he realizes that they are people just like him, which causes tremendous guilt. He would explore the other Region in the postgame like you, but he does it so he can form a proper perspective of the Region as a whole.

The Wall is more of a neutral zone. The inside of the wall is a man-made victory road, while the top has a city in the middle of it, with people from both regions. Because of the huge event that is the League, most of these people had moved to capitalize on the huge influx of visiting trainers and set up shops that would sell useful held items at extortionate prices.

Victory road would also be different for each region. If you were playing West, the entrance would be in the south west corner of the wall, north east if you were playing East.

It's weird that you bring up the China post, because that was mine, but it was a phonepost. I made it while I was trying to find my word document with my East/West idea .

Because they’re based on the cardinal directions, I figured there could be a fifth one based on gravity. In certain versions of the myth there’s also the yellow dragon of the Center, so that could work I guess. In an unsettled region like many are proposing, it's reasonable to assume that PC access would not be universal, or even widespread. One could easily imagine a quest-line where you have to place relays throughout the Wild Areas and their adjoining towns in order to access your Pokemon box, not unlike setting up the Chiral Network in Death Stranding. Is this something that would be interesting, or just tedious busywork getting in the way of the actual fun of the game (catching and battling)?

A chain battle can be cut short by capturing a Pokemon, which automatically terminates the chain, or running, which halves your total XP gained, as you only gain XP when the chain is complete, and forfeits any Pick-Ups.

It's based on battle chaining from The World Ends With You, where you could create a gauntlet of fights with steadily intensifying difficulty in exchange for better rewards.

I like the idea of the box legendaries, not so sure about the evil Clefairy, I'd have a hard time taking that seriously, not because it's a Clefairy (those things are always evil) but because a Pokemon villain is, I think, really hard to execute correctly.

I would honestly be down for gen 9 rebooting the franchise and do a sort of retelling of gen 1 set in a region based off of the whole of Japan (similar to how digimon did their reboot in a way).
I would probably want to see it so that gen 9 takes some ideas from the manga and anime (one example being green and yellow being your rivals that aren't blue).
As for starter pokemon I would like to see the kanto starters redone a bit like maybe the bulbasaur line could be based on some ancient carnivorous amphibian and maybe be changed to grass/ghost with the flower having more of a corpse flower inspiration, Charizard could be fire/dragon and be flightless and four legged, and Squirtle could have its old final evolution back with some slight changes to make it more than just bigger Wartortle (hell make all three's hidden abilities be setting up weather when switched in). For other pokemon I would want it to not just be gen 1 but from all gens if they fit with the whole japan theme as well as adding in a load of beta pokemon from gens 1 and 2 or sometimes a pokemon that looks most similar to one, finishing up the types without an eeveelution, Evolutions for the elemental monkeys and Jynx and I don't want all 151 gen 1 pokemon back as with a reboot some pokemon are gonna have to just dissapear for good. Voice acting is a must this gen. The story I really wanna see go away from gen 1 and maybe be much darker (possibly taking a thing or two from the manga or the anime like maybe the main antagonist being the masked man and the pokemon league functioning like the anime). Mega Evolution could return but if it does it should be going to pokemon that need it in competitive. As for post game I would personally say is adapt the first pokemon movie into a delta episode-like mission and have a bunch of other stuff to do as well like the sevii islands, battle frontier, getting the ultra beasts,legendary birds and dogs,ho-oh and lugia, and a good reward for finishing the dex. As for DLC I would go for an octo-expansion esque story for Alola which adds more pokemon and other stuff. (2/2)

Makes normally weak species more viable in competitive. In addition to being higher-level than anyone else, they can also have exclusive access to powerful moves (e.g. if Squirtle learns Bouncy Bubble at lv81 then Blastoise will never be able to use it). Everyone loves an underdog who makes up for their weakness by trying really hard.

You could also do crazy stuff like giving Regigigas a level cap of 200.

Pokemon Order & Pokemon Chaos

Region set in Chinese inspired region with a great wall aesthetic.

Legendaries are based off of Egyptian Lore of Sobek(Chaos) and Horus(Order)

Evil Team is called Team Sunset. Goal is to make Pokemon out to be dangerous creatures incapable of being tamed. Pokemon are brainwashed to attack local towns. Minor injuries insue to keep an E10 rating.

In Pokemon Order you join The Eye to take Team Sunset down and discover evil people exist in good places. In Pokemon Chaos you join Team Sunset and discover good people come from bad places.

Starters are marketable and somehow not furry-bait.

Thoughts?
