So why doesn’t modern Pokémon (the games) let Pokémon (the creatures) use their species name as a cry, just like they already do in Pokémon (the anime)?

they would have to put effort into voice acting the cries for every single pokemon, with different cries for each language. Do you think Gamefreak wants to take their time implementing a big feature like this?

Why do you ask? It's dumb and sounds stupid. If you watch Generations or Twilight Wings you will notice these are more natural, looks thousands times better and make main anime cries look worse.

Also remember there a lot of translations. Good look making 6 different cries + cry variations for each Pokémon
