>>44165381You can't help but get overlevelled ever since the exp share key item came along. You have to actively fight against it by trading out pokemon for weaker ones or actively avoiding battles as much as possible.
I like to train one team of six and actually battle trainers, but it becomes annoyingly easy because I'm always overlevelled and just turns the game into a button-masher.
Forming a team you bond with and taking on every challenger are strongly encouraged in the game so it's not like it's an unintended playstyle. I never battle wild encounters or do any kind of grinding, I actively switch my pokemon order to avoid ending up with one super-strong pokemon. I always take shitty early route pokemon over overpowered ones. I go for basic attacks rather than competitive-level movesets. Hell, I don't even give them items or anything these days.
And yet it always turns into a button-masher.
I wouldn't mind it so much if there was more to the game like a significant element of exploration or an actually captivating story, but there isn't.
