Personally, I've always hated how the "Bond of Friendship" angle in Pokemon feels so weak. The Digimon series has always made that bond feel stronger because they made it so with no bullshit the power of the Digimon is DIRECTLY associated with the bond and connection of their tamer/partner. A weak bond means a digimon will stay weak, while a strong bond will grow them stronger than anything they could possibly have by just slaying other Digimon in their land. Pokemon on the other hand I can't say has that same tier of a bond, because barring TMs (Which Digimon has in the form of Cards or whatever thing they use in the new generations) and I suppose move tutors (even though Pokemon can just tutor each other these) Pokemon don't really need people most of the time to get stronger. They can manage or just get by on their own and reach a high skill level without the need of people.
Not saying that Pokemon bonds don't exist or do things, it just doesn't feel as strong as it should?
