Drawfriend here. Ended up losing two team members in Nimbasa City from one of the football guys. Was able to grab two new team members who I'm pretty excited about using. I don't see many people use Emolga on their teams so that's extra fun.

I've nuzlocked Platinum a lot in the past, and the Barry bridge fight is one I still remember as being scary. It's right up there with the first Cyrus fight, Fantina and the final Cyrus fight for me

I'm not sure whether Synkro or Clair is the MVP.

Any pokemon line that has become a champion (entered the Hall of Fame) is retired and unable to be used in subsequent games/runs. Some people allow pokemon with multiple evolutions to not be retired if the other is retired (Eeveelutions, Gardevoir/Gallade, etc.)

Digiduck the porygon and Glenn the croagunk joined the squad, the latter of which ended up being pretty clutch in my fight with candice, taking out abomasnow. Roxy took care of piloswine and Margaret took out sneasel and froslass. giving Margaret flash cannon has been pretty money so far.

I send Amalia in on a Night Slash and Sleep Powder Druddigon.

Alice sets up another Reflect as Druddigon tries a Night Slash to very limited success.
A Blizzard finishes it off.

Haxorus Dragon Dances, but gets Thunder Wave'd.
I send Wario in as Haxorus gets Fully paralyzed. Haxorus Dragon Dances again, but a Circle Throw tosses it back out. Reflect fades.

It Dragon Dances, but a (likely unnecessary) Revenge Crit takes it out.

Wario Bulks Up as it Dragon Dances.

My computer was taking a huge shit today so Castelia City/Sewers was constant periods of 1 frame per minute. Managed to get through it. Got lucky and got an Eevee in Castelia Garden, plan on turning it into an Espeon probably.

Miki is a verifiable crit machine now that I have Scope Lens. Air Cutter is a +3 crit now which means 1/3 chance to crit. Miki handily took down Burgh without any trouble.

Sorry for your losses. Platinum has quite a few difficulty spike fights, which makes it a little stressful. Also very jealous of your 4 shinies so far. I haven't seen a wild shiny since 2013. Hope to find one before I finish this challenge.

Erika almost killed Charizard with her Vileplume, it took Charizard ~10 turns to wake up.

Good Luck with the E4.
There's a decent sized post-game in Platinum, but no real Red/Steven like fight. There are a few new fights, (Flint/Volkner double battle, Galactic Admins rematch, Barry fight), but the max level in any of the fights is 65.

Hey no probbers, we all play by self-enforced rules anyway, the important part is just that we stick to them
I definitely don't feel bad about giving myself a few extra options to work with considering the other rules I'm working with, the combination I'm using gives me just the right amount of happiness/difficulty balance, but I know for example that many would hate playing on Set and/or not having access to healing items in battle, but that's their prerogative, we play to have fun (at least most of us do)

I have a fairly long list of rules for myself.
- No items in Gym/E4 from start to finish
- If a Pokemon successfully executes Destiny Bond, it comes back to life.
- Duplicate clause + skipping Pokemon I hate (No Geodudes, Zubats, etc.)
- With the top rule in mind, if I fail catching a Pokemon I actually want, then tough luck.
In the end of the day, I'm playing to have fun, not to fuck around with Geodude number 100.

Well it's been a while since my last update but here we are ready to face the Elite Four. Claire was pretty tame and since then i've just been prepping the gang. Have a couple of Tm's to go pick up and then it's time to hopefully not get fucked? Never made it this far in Sacred Gold and i'm hoping there isn't a huge level jump but am super excited for this. Team has been amazing, albeit with a lot of luck sprinkled in, but to lose them at the halfway stage would be a great shame.

after never finishing a sinnoh game, i kind a get the hype. platinum has awesome pokemon diversity, and accents all of the good things about sinnoh while mostly fixing the slowness of diamond/pearl.
on to heartgold, by far my favorite game in the series.

In other news, I managed to catch something minor but still very fascinating; I happened to swing by Route 213 on one of the 10 days of the year where it rains there, it only raining there on January 24, March 13, May 11, July 11, August 9, August 20, October 18, November 10, December 2, and December 31

Didn't document the first run too well since I moved through it so fast but time for a second round of Gen 1! Kinda sad that I now have had my Beedrill die early twice now (this time even earlier than Red) but the bee is just so hard to get going (kind of like Hans himself actually, man just doesn't get Attack increases ever), Fury Attack is really bad without STAB.

Brock was actually kind of challenging, I went in fairly low level (Tao at 13, everyone else was around 8-11) and had to use String Shot on the Onix just to outspeed it. Ember really didn't do as much damage as I remembered it doing, so I had to use a few Potions along the way.

Meanwhile Misty wasn't too bad, I slept her initial Staryu with Lowe, then switched in Gong, set up a bunch of Growths and mowed her down with Vine Whip. Fairly standard stuff, but gotta get Gong that moment of glory before the Poison, Flying and Psychic infested mid to lategame!

this is definitely the weirdest hg team i've ever had. scyther was a lucky snag in the bug catching contest, but it has swarm and its nature is meh so it's getting boxed for now.

Aaron was a cakewalk, uwu soloed him
Bertha I had planned to solo with Gordon, but her Gliscor proved to be too resilient and also had Ice Fang, which meant that Alaska had to clean up the rest of the fight
I was an absolute idiot with Flint and lead with Alaska instead of the much safer option in uwu, causing us to lose Alaska, uwu taking out the rest of his team
Lucian would've been a clean sweep on Wumpus' part had it not been for Gallade scoring a critical hit Psycho Cut and killing them

With Cynthia I had Gordon set up against her Spiritomb, but it wasn't enough so he fell to her Togekiss right afterwards.
Sending out uwu, I took out her Togekiss and she sends out her own Garchomp. "No way in hell am I faster than that thing". Turns out I was, uwu taking it out in one Dragon Claw thanks to a crit.
Next is Milotic, I switch to The Jim who slowly wittles it down thanks to Toxic and Bite flinch hax, leaving The Jim at 11HP
Next is Lucario, I send out Alilat, Alilat manages to nearly take it out on their own, but Lucario gets a crit Aura Sphere (fair I suppose), uwu cleaning up the last two members of Cynthia's team, making us the victor!

I allow Z-moves, but only against major battlers and totems, not mooks.

If a SOS Pokémon shows up, I'm allowed to catch it instead of the mon I encountered.
It still has to be the first encounter on the route, and I can't just sit and farm for it.
I'll use a three strikes system similar to that of the dupes clause; if it calls up the same mon as the first encountered one twice, that's it(the first strike is the original encounter).
This is simply so that SOS only mons aren't entirely locked out of being used.

Same thing with items in battle, the AI can use at most four items in battle (I don't think this has changed ever, but I know it's a fact in Gen 3 at least and I've not seen any evidence to the contrary), so why should I be allowed to use more items than them? Since it's hard to know beforehand who has items and how many they have, I just go by the rule "If they use one, I can use one", gives a good feeling when the AI heals a mon you know you've checkmated and you "earn" a heal

Also, I've been finding the level rate going from route to route to gym and so on to be steeper than previous games. Outside of a close call against a Sandshrew that left Gong at 1 HP (he evolved immediately after!) it's been pretty smooth going so far, though that's to be expected with a Gen 1 Nidomonarch, they plow through the early to midgame with no issues and don't ever run out of steam. Even against Lt. Surge I just sent in Max and clicked Thrash and watched his whole team get OHKOed, and the S.S. Anne rival was about the same story (even outsped Kadabra).

Can't wait to get Slash on Khris!

It's beautiful, but super late. Luckily Meowth is a crit machine - gen 1 is probably the best gen to use a Persian.

Starmie in gen 1 is like bringing a bomb to a fist fight, so it's worth it. Exeggutor is also really solid.

Lotta uses Fake Out, and the Totem calls a partner Yungoos.
The Totem then uses Super Fang, the partner uses Leer, but my luck is legend and Lotta gets a Force Palm Crit that also paralyzes the Totem.
The Yungoos Tackles to help its boss, but Brick Break brings the Totem down.
Lotta is too worn down to safely fight the Yungoos though, so I switch in Tidy on a Tackle.
Tidy scores a Water Gun Crit, and Yungoos strikes back with Tackle, but now the writing is on the wall. Another Water Gun ends the fight.

My first nuzlocke on the GB, pretty good so far, just beat Brock. No deaths by still being very careful, I was a bit too over lv but you have to be if you picked Charmander.
Fucking Pikachu that didn't let me catch him ruined my changes to get a Caterpie in the forest so I settled with Weedle.
His Onyx was easy as long as you don't attack it when it's biding and instead lower its defense and attacks until he's ineffective as hell, then just spam Ember till it dies. His Geodude was the real pain of the fight, the defense curls where making things go on for ages and Brock must have a bucket full of Full Heals because he wouldn't let me poison him at all.
I had to take a risk and use Cheese thinking she would become a martyr but it turns out her Hyper Fang was what was needed to end him. I love you Cheese, I hope u make it to the elite four. :3

This is kind of the point of the game where I like to consolidate the EXP onto Pokemon I know I'll be taking to the end and sidelining the ones that I won't, so that's why the EXP distribution has become so lopsided, lopsided to the point where I was actually over-leveled pretty significantly for Erika. Unsurprisingly she went down incredibly easily to the point that I actually let LOWE get the final hit on the Vileplume.

I'm really hoping to get Surf and access to Cinnabar Island to revive my Helix Fossil, Omanyte isn't the most accessible Pokemon ever and it's probably at its best here in Gen 1. Outside of that, I might pull Adam out of the box and see what else I run across that I don't mind using here.

Not just FRLG, E4 will typically go from level 48-62, so 58 is fair since you're likely to level up once or twice on the way to the top.

Mantine in USUM is completely legit. There's barely any Special Defense focused Pokemon that you can get in nuzlockes since they tend to be rare, lack the health to consistently do it, or overlap typings (lots of Fairy or Psychic types).

Decided my blood pressure isn't high enough, so I'm going to try nuzlocking some pretty hard games. Going to start with Rejuvenation's Intense Mode first. Rules are

I'm not doing this because I'm a pussy, I'm doing this because this game is fucking hard on Normal let alone Intense and actively does tons of shit that would screw over Nuzlockes (trainers with level 70 pokemon in the first area if you explore the wrong buildings, level caps with bosses that can and do exceed it, ater on there's legendaries who get powered up by 'field effects', bosses use z moves and megas which you do not have access to, etc.).
Rejuvenation to my understanding has a very big update coming out maybe this year so I might redo this, but I feel like doing it now.
If anyone wants to pick a starter for me that'd be nice (game gives you gen 1-7 starters or a lottery option to give you something random, iirc)

Well that perfectly fills a hole in my team in a big way with Psychic/Ground resists! Kind of regret not grabbing Leech Seed, that would have been fun to pair with Toxic but sleeping moves are so strong in Gen 1 it's hard to give up Hypnosis, even with its shaky accuracy (Sleep Powder is too late to consider, unfortunately). Time to keep bouncing around Kanto and grabbing all sorts of powerful TMs to buff my party even more!

So much shit happened. Caught a Ekans thinking I would use her to be expendable (later she proved to be my best asset) caught a Oddish, perfect to deal with Misty. Leveled them both up to 22 and headed straight to the Water gym, Plums handled that entire gym. Head over to that ship and fought everyone, Rival was easy, got HMcut. Go back to Route 6 to grind up my Mankey, but I zoned out like a moron and he was crt by a Pidgey, whatever. Go and fight Lt.Surge and Sneekie(my Arbok) alone completely destroyed the trainers and him with just Body Slam which I didn't know would parallelized even electric types, so that was a laughable cake walk. However, tragedy finally got to my winning streak and my Beedrill was soft locked into a constant Rage from a wild Pidgey. It's Sand-Attack was by default going to make him miss every turn and the game only allows you to change his move-set once he hits the opponent with rage enough times I think, but to sum it up, he was fucked the moment I picked that move. This shit was so heart breaking to watch because it was a Lv15 Pidgey so it's attacks where weak so it only widdle away my poor sod's health to 2 and then death. Fair well BuzzKill, my Pidgeotto ironically will honor you in your place

I have an AR code that gives me all the routes from the get go (since you can only access about 20% of them, the rest are locked behind postgame/events), but I feel it would be overkill to get 30 something extra Pokemon so I limited myself to 5
I went to a site that allowed me to get 5 random numbers between 1-27 (there being 27 Pokewalker routes total) with the intention of getting one Pokemon from each route, only skipping mons if they're champs
The numbers I got were 13, 2, 20, 26 and 24, which corresponded to Scary Cave, Noisy Forest, Quiet Cave, Winner's Path and Rally. I considered myself very lucky in getting Winner's Path since pretty much everything there is great to get, especially this early.
Since some routes give mons that are way overleveled, I have a rule in place that I'm not allowed to use any Pokewalker mon which level exceeds the next Gym Leader's ace, meaning Marowak and Feebas are benched until I beat Morty

At first I thought it was kinda weird that my Pokemon would just actually die, but since I was playing a Nuzlocke anyways I didn't mind.
The rest of the game was fun, catching Pokemon, beating trainers, it's Pokemon, there's a reason it's the biggest franchise in the world.
The eerie theme was kinda nice anyways, I was always a fan of horror.
But when I got to the Inigo League the music suddenly got a lot more distorted, my rival appeared from the edge of the screen.
His sprite looked different then before, he was bigger and greener than before, I thought it was just a funny glitch and didn't pay much attention to it.
Then when the battle started, all of his Pokemon, that I defeated before, were different.
They too were green, and their bodies were distorted, limbs missing, their eyes were hollow and a red liquid was pouring out of them.
I started to feel very uneasy, but I couldn't escape, something compelled me to keep playing. Something greater.
My shiny Charizard used wing attack, and Gary's Pokemon grunted in pain, and then used bite, my Charizard let out a terrible shriek of pain and died instantly.
Gary then appeared. "I've done my part, you're next!"
What does he mean? I was so worried, but before I could observe anymore the battle ended.
The screen flashed static in me and it sorta glitched to where I was before Gary appeared, right before Victory road.
I looked at my Pokemon and Charizard was still alive, I wondered if the game reset itself or what.
But then I noticed a small difference, my Charizard has a status problem I've never seen before.
It read INF
What does that mean? I tried looking it online but shortly after I started my search my game popped back on screen.
But now, Charizard was out of his ball, standing next to me in the game.
His looks mimicked that of Gary's pokemon, green, diseased and with blood dripping from it's body. For a moment I thought I smelled blood, I looked behind me, but there was nothing there.

I'm sure I'm going to hate this. Also, didn't mention it, but for at least this run I'm doing checkpoints between the gyms. This is a somewhat blind playthrough (last time I played Rejuv was when the water gym leader was the final boss? which is probably the toughest boss i've ever fought in a pokemon game)
Anyway, starting this piece of shit, forgot how much story this game dumps on you. Froakie ended up being a great choice, did reset a few times for a decent one with good IVs/Nature (I know, I know, but trust me, this game will pay me back in full). found a rare candy on the ship at the beginning of the game, which allowed me to learn bubble and trounce amaria's litten and ren's level 5 froakie with my level 7 one after levelling up. this oughtta be good

Why has nobody took the Nuzlocke challenge to another level?
Let's be honest here. Pokemon is easy. Everybody knows this. We had some people come up with the Nuzlocke challenge forever ago and that satisfied people for a good while, but I think we need some new limitations that don't feel too 'forced' to go along with it and I've figured out just the thing.
First of all though before I say that idea, the problem with regular Nuzlockes is despite it severely limiting the number of Pokemon you can have, you STILL get enough of them for it to not really matter, too many times have I seen people using their 6 Pokemon teams to just be able to switch certain Pokemon in to die just because they don't actually give a fuck about said Pokemon and they need to do that to save the one they like to have another turn to heal or whatever.
Now here's the solution.

How about having an additional rule that limits the amount of Pokemon you can have in your party that is dependent on how many gym badges you have?
Often times you'll get to the first gym and have either a full party or near a full party. It just seems absurd when the first gym leader has been 2-3 Pokemon max. I think you should should initially have 2 Pokemon at any given point in your party. After you collect 2 badges, you can have 1 more. Then another 1 after the next 2 badges, and so on until you have your entire party available.
You can switch the Pokemon in your party with Pokemon in your PC, that's still fine, you're not locked into the first 2 you put in your party or anything, but at the start you can only have 2 pokemon in your party at a time.
I think this would do wonders for the Nuzlocke challenge while not having that overly forced feeling.
Hell, it'll even feel anime-esque in a way too.

Been forever since I updated this. For anyone who doesn't know the rules: I'm taking my autism to the next level and playing all 3 Hoenn games at the same time, and dupes clause applies across all 3 games. If I get a Zigzagoon in Ruby, nobody else can get a Zigzagoon.

This makes it easier to get rarer encounters (like my Skarmory in Emerald), but it also SEVERELY limits how many encounters you get. The encounter pool dries up in some areas, sometimes meaning only one game gets a new catch, and I have to make the call based on which team is struggling most.

Sapphire continues to take a pounding. Just as I started to rebuild, Archie's Sharpedo decided that I was now doing a Kanto-only Nuzlocke and ripped half my team from my party. Flannery didn't kill anyone, but only because I specifically grinded to get Machoke. Numel was also lucky, landing a Magnitude 10 while Torkoal set up Sunny Day and then getting an 8. Would have died for sure if it landed an Overheat, resist or not.

I don't break the rules when I'm playing except for one thing, and it is admittedly dumb as shit but my autism cannot handle it and that thing is if the first Pokemon I run into is a female version of a Pokemon that evolves into something which has a mustache. I just fucking cannot deal with that, I'll never be able to connect to the Pokemon, I'll never be able to take it seriously. I don't know why they don't just make those types of Pokemon male only. I'm so fucking mad because even when I do skip that encounter for IMO justified reasons it still lingers at the back of my head as cheating.

Got every capture I currently can before you go to the Gearen Sewers to meet funny meme woman #1219129 that this game loves to throw at you.
Some ended up being really solid, like Adamant 31 IVs Atk/Spe Shuppet with Knock Off, others less so, but nothing outright shitty so far, which is great. Sad to know most if not all of these will die before the end of this run.
Froakie was an amazing choice, Protean is so good at tricking enemy AI at the beginning of the game and has saved my ass repeatedly versus the tons of grass types I've fought

Big update since last time. Went from Fallarbor Town all the way back to Petalburg, collecting the next two badges. Got a few new catches, but also had a lot of losses.

Maxie was not too hard, but Oceanic Anna the Wingull couldn't quite cut it after Maxie's Camerupt used Anmesia and turning Water Pulse into a 3KO.

Flannery went down without much problems, either. Overheat was a little scary at times and Brash Britta the Swellow almost burned to death against Numel, but we got out of it all without any losses.

Then I go and lose 3 Pokemon in the desert of Route 111. And two of them were new additions to the team, which sucks a bunch.

I was a little nervous about Norman, but Alluring Liz the Mawile and her Intimidate ability made sure no one took too much damage overall.

Dryden was a little scary. His Flygon managed to get Haruka down to 9 health with an Earth Power crit, causing me to have to heal when Haxorus came in. Aw, shucks. You folks make me feel like a celebrity. Anyway, here's post-Norman.

I love Breloom, and losing him sucks, but at least it allows me to use the Cacnea I didn't think I'd get to use. Also, Solrock is basically the MVP of all 3 games. Total unexpected beast. I'd be dead at the last two gyms if not for Solrock.

But really I had one goal for Ruby: keep Tentacool alive. As soon as Norman is beaten, I gain access to both Surf and Sludge Bomb, so Tentacool gets an enormous buff.

Also, I'm pretty proud of my Leppa Berry + Dig Sandslash strat that worked on both of Norman's Slakings. I had to sack some fodder and let Machoke finish the second Slaking off after 20 digs, but it still worked great.

What's the last version of the game you've played, because not knowing what you're up against makes the game practically impossible/a guessing game.
For my Reborn nuzlocke I had played the game enough to know most important fights and counter strategies and even then I ended the game with 3 and a half dead boxes.
Even before I nuzlocke E13 when it comes out I'm gonna play through it normally first, because a lot is planned to change.
Also the EV training is there just to get you on even footing with the trainers you go up against, most important battles start having maxed very early on.
For all I know I just suck, so fight against the odds anon.

Yeah, I thought having some semblance of control over my team would make it easier, but the encounters become reduced way more than I expected. I already have an Oddish boxed, so the next route I'm basically guaranteed a Tropius. I think I'll put it on Sapphire. I can also force a 1% Kecleon onto a party, but I doubt it'd help that much. The other games basically just get nothing there.

It's pretty fun if you have the time, though I recommend doing Gen III or lower so you can speed it up on emulators. I did it for Gen II before and got some interesting combos.

Another game completed.
After finding it hard to keep up with the leveling curve for most of the game, post-Drayden was hard not to overlevel with how much it flattens out. Like his ace is level 48, and Ghestis' Ace, which the fight is after they 8th Gym, and a whole lot of mandatory trainer battles, is 52.

Anyway, I'm unsure if I'll start White 2 tomorrow or take another extended break. I do have everything set up and ready for Gen 6 though.

I dunno how it'll work in gen 1, but gens 2 onward, with the introduction of day/night cycles, you can pretty much guarantee to catch all pokemon available in the games split between the three teams.
If you plan accordingly, you will get the exclusives in every game.
I'll probably try in the gen 4 games; DPPt.
Btw, how do you approach events/encounters? Like the single Rotom in DPPt or the single Sudowoodo in GSC?

You pick one of 27 courses (only 2 are open initially, 60% are locked behind national dex, another 20% behind events), go on a walk, every 20 steps gives you one Watt
10 Watts gives you a Pokemon encounter, every course has 6 available Pokemon, 2 common, 2 uncommon, 2 rare, game picks one from each rarity when you put your Pokemon in the Pokewalker, the uncommon and rare Pokemon are locked until you walk a certain amount of steps (anywhere from 500 to 10,000)
3 Watts gives you a chance for an item, you have a 50/50 chance if you play your cards right, but it's mostly luck, you can get some good stuff tho like TMs and such
Watts are also used to unlock new courses, any unused Watts gets transferred to your cart (the Pokewalker is always "wiped clean" every time) and if you've earned enough cumulative Watts you unlock a new course (last one needs 100,000 Watts, which is INSANE, but you can get Spiritomb there)
Overall another thing that makes HGSS a 10/10 experience

Reginella hits it with Air Cutter and gets struck back with Water Gun. The Totem calls another Wishiwashi.
The newcomer uses Aqua Ring as I send in Tidy, who the Totem hits with Water Gun.
The helper uses... Helping Hand, and Tidy hits the Totem with Acrobatics(activating its Sitrus Berry). The Totem wastes the help by using Growl.
Next turn is much the same.
The turn after that though, Helping Hand Water gun wears down Tidy enough that decide to switch her out. Acrobatics almost puts the Totem out of Schooling range.
Another Helping Hand into Growl lets Geoff in for free.

Only one team gets it. For Sudowoodo, for example, whoever wants it has to fight it first (so the others don't fail their catch), then the other two can potentially grab Growlithe or Stantler or whatever on that route.

I just got a Bold Mareanie from an SOS call. I think I'll use it despite already having a Water starter, since the chance of this happening again for Moon or Ultra Moon is minimal, and this thing is bulky as hell once it evolves.
That being said, my team is growing increasingly weak to Electric types, so I guess Lucy the Mudbray might keep making appearances for some key battles despite me planning for her to be temporary.

The first Numel you encounter in the game thoroughly rinsed me and I had issues with them and other fire-types up until I got Surf. Well I had to turn off the exp share after a little bit after I won against Viola, it was quite frankly a little too excessive. Though Spinrad the Snorlax cucked me out of a potential quality meme in a Smeargle he'll probably be a good addition to the team. Rounding out the team is Jirel the Honedge who I think could be a bit of a beast. Very interesting typing. For now I'm just loafing around on route 7 and trying to figure out how to get my berries to grow with this emulator I got.

finished up plot before gym, hoooooly fuck this is a great wake up call that you need to be absolutely prepared at all times. grinded mons i thought i'd use, then decided to get in some exp for some of my fliers since fliers can ignore the damage effect from the poison gym. problem is, once you fight melia, you're then locked out of your pc, and are stuck with a partner in melia who constantly heals you (love how she can heal YOU but not her own pokemon to help you fight the evil team).

that's a bit of a problem when the game tosses a gauntlet of shadow pokemon at you that can freely spam a super powerful super effective move against your team, while you're trying to catch them, and using dead mons as free switches feels SUPER scummy, so I had to play really riskily and safely somehow at the same time (also, funnily enough, trying to spam charm with pachirisu to make the shadow pokemon weaker makes the trainers swap out). failed to catch the alolan grimer i really wanted from the admin due to an unlucky confusion. also, holy fuck his type null nearly ended the run, scary ass pokemon.

most of the fights other than that thankfully weren't bad (crono ripped melia a new asshole), and crono actually managed to defeat the dimension rift gyarados after it wiped out the rest of my team by spamming smoke screen, but that win isn't required so i don't care.

some new captures and a lot more battles opened up, so i'll update again right before fighting the gym

Solar Blade(using the Power Herb) hits hard despite the Resist, Air Cutter scores a crit on Lurantis, and I'm stupidly lucky as Trumbeak's Rock Blast misses.
Lurantis tries to heal itself with Synthesis, but another Air Cutter both KOs Trumbeak and scores a second crit for the KO on the Totem as well.
That was a lucky battle, a lot worked out in my favor that had no business doing so.
I did have the Scope Lens on Reginella, and Air Cutter is high crit to start with, so it wasn't like I simply lucked out entirely, I was putting myself in a favorable position.
I did entirely blank on the fact that Trumbeak had Rock Blast, though.

I could, but that's de leveling to level 10 and then retraining back to level 20, and that's just a little too annoying on top of everything else.
If I do wipe to Venam with this setup, which I doubt, I will do that, but otherwise I think I'll just wait until breeders are unlocked/the level cap is raised to 40 so she can learn psychic

Here's something I don't actually know, does the Hoenn starter count as your encounter on route 101?
Typically you would get a pokemon at your starting town, but in this game you get it on Route 101, I just got the Pokedex and am about to go into tall grass.

Some interesting things happened on the way to Fortree City.

The punk tried to cheese me with Double Team, but Dapper Delia the Pikachu's Volt Switch cut it down in a single hit.

Not knowing what would come out next due to Volt Switch, I lead with Pumped Pablo the Machamp.
I then quickly switched to Agile Archer, take a pitiful bit of damage and take it down with Discharge.
>Altaria
I decided to throw in Alluring Liz the Mawile in order to cut Altaria's attack with Intimidate. The enemy sets up a Cotton Guard on the switch.
Next, I use Sweet Scent so that my other Pokemon won't miss with Dual Chop.
Altaria uses Earthquake and gets a goddamn crit.

From here, I send in Verdant Vigo the Sceptile and set up Swords Dance, but he gets paralyzed by Altaria's Dragon Breath.
Try as I might, Dual Chop doesn't do enough damage overall as Altaria just Roosts off the damage and wears Vigo down with more Dragon Breath.
To get some leverage, I switch Archer back in and paralyze Altaria with Discharge. I get a lucky paralysis, but Discharge still isn't strong enough to take Altaria out as Winona uses a Hyper Potion. I use one more Discharge as Altaria uses Earthquake, debuffed by Archer's Shuca Berry.
To finish Altaria off, I send in Pablo and get Altaria to paralyzing him with Dragon Breath and activate Guts.
Altaria sets up one more Cotton Guard to maximize its defense and the rest of the match is spent trading Dual Chops and Dragon Breaths while Altaria heals the damage with Roost.
Eventually, I get one crit with Dual Chop that finally knocks out Altaria.

Easy OHKO with a Lava Plume from Glazed Gilam the Camerupt.

Fuck my life. At least i can finally continue playing the game. Also got a full team of mons that i've never used. Might replace Dandy with a Hoppip if i manage to catch one though.

Venam sends out Nidorina, Hoggmeister is my first out, thankfully the first time you send out a Pokemon it does not hurt. It's level 16, Hogg has 252 fucking Special Attack EVs and Psybeam, I know Nidorina can learn Bite, I just kill it.
Next comes Alolan Grimer. This is exactly why I brought Matthew - powder moves are 100% accuracy in Venam's terrain, it trolls anything slower. I just spam sleep powder on it and growth up to +6, then have a stall war with it with mega drain/bite that I win
Next comes Whirlipede, I go for Rex, paralyze it, it gets full para'd. Then I hit for 2 Psybeams, thankfully it's slower than me at normal speed so Speed Boost does nothing for it. in retrospect, this was dumb, whirlipede can know rollout, but if it had it, it didn't use it.
Next is Mareanie, where I bring out Freya and hit it with a Psychic Gem-boosted Confusion - but that DOESN'T take it out, because it has a Payapa Berry, and it hits me back with critical Venoshock. That's all it can do before dying.
Next is Ivysaur, and again, I just bring out Matthew - it can't really do much to me and just hits for weak Venam's Kisses (75 BP poison move) over and over, so I take the time to heal the party for the real big threat in the back, then I spam Acid (which does get a boost from the field) for a kill.
Finally is the big threat, Seviper. Rex paralyzes it, it gets full para'd, then I use Psybeam for half it's health. Then it hits me with Venoshock and kills Rex from full - if you don't know, Venam's terrain makes it so venoshock is always 130 BP regardless of whether you're poisoned. it's fucking bullshit, should've used light screen, but whatever, freya revenges.
relatively, relatively easy poisonheart badge, was expecting more than 1 death.

God this shit takes forever to update. This may come as a surprise to some, but playing 3 games takes 3 times as long.

Nobody died to Winona, but my Manectric died to the famous Milotic on the rain route. My Cacturne was still a Cacnea with no Giga Drain yet, so I opted for Manectric. To be honest, I cared the least about this mon across all 3 teams.

But losing Manectric left a pretty big Winona weakness in Ruby, and I'm pretty proud of my strategy. Solrock -- the perpetual beast -- learned Cosmic Power while fighting the gym trainers, so I set up to +6/+6 Defenses against Swellow. Once I finally hit a Rock Throw, I (for the first time in my life) used a Guard Spec to protect against Skarmory's Sand Attacks. Skarmory took forever and ended up getting a few Sand Attacks in, but I still hit Altaria often enough to kill it before it set up.

A similar Bulk Up strategy in Emerald was almost thwarted by Swablu's Perish Song, so I had Vigoroth set up on Pellipper instead. Skarmory was still only 3HKO'd by a +6 Secret Power, because of course it was.

Sapphire actually used Sandslash to beat Altaria. I set up a Sandstorm, then when it missed due to Sand Veil, I struck with Rock Tombs. I ended up paralyzed and on 4HP, but I got it before it set up too much.

Solrock, Sandslash, and Vigoroth (tied with Skarmory) are the MVPs across the teams, so I'm pumped they all took out Winona's ace.

Just lost two Pokemon to Youngster Billy, that Taillow does not play around.
My starter just barely survived with 10hp, which the Taillow could easily one shot with Peck.
Sunni Gummi found two items before her demise, a Full Restore and Rare Candy.
She was too good for this earth.
This is the closest I ever got to a TPK, the Lotad was in the box because I already had a Grass type out.
