XY is really just some kind of DBZ/Naruto hype blast with self insert shipping. It doesn't have the same heart, the same apple-pie feeling that carried the original awe, wonder, and adventure.

I kind of feel like OG Ash ended with DP. Until then, it felt like we saw the same character growing, evolving, and progressing. Gen 5 on have been harder reboots where his personality and skills are altered to meet the story. Unova? Rookie trainer. Kalos? Shounen protag preteen. Alola? Goober.
It doesn't help that each movie we get a different incarnation of Ash outside the main series.

I stopped watching the anime but kept up with it on here or on other sites, but I always watched the movies. Ended up putting sun and moon on while laying in bed before going to sleep. I know it was a departure from previous seasons, and I can understand why some fans wouldn't like it, but I thought it was kino. Even though the Lugia movie was one of the best in recent years, I'm really disappointed the Alola characters didn't get at least one movie dedicated to their continuity.
