>>44181757I dont even mean this as an insult to less competitivley-inclined people, but there are people who value Pokemon as a single player RPG, an adventure game, the worldbuilding, exotic animal collecting simulator, a huge reason it became so widely popular is BECAUSE it's a fair Jack-of-All-Trades game. A massive reason people are of the mindset Pokemon's been failing is because GF has done little to advance the quality of the series beyond what it's been doing generations prior to any element of the game beyond competitivley.
Considering GF's attempts to balance the meta have been mixed at best with the last 2 generations is giving them a lot of credit, and while that is still prevalent to this day I feel like the big meta of SwSh are at a relatively healthy point. Smogon didn't have to ban too many things outside their typical preferences, playing VGC doubles doesn't have any big broken Pokemon thay are uncheckable or overpowered, and if you really look at it Dynamax is probably the best gimmick they have invented in a doubles format (still not as good as no gimmick but I digress).
But the fact they've dumbed down level design, still use recycled animations and looking stiff and unresponsive with those animations, don't seem to bugtest much of their overworld features, designed a campaign both on rails and hand holding (though admittadley a little less this time around) and still look like a handheld game yet put at 60$ seems pretty undeserved.
