>>44177809There's several games for the 3ds in mainline pokemon:
XY, ORAS, SM and their updated version USUM
There's also gen 5 BW and the sequel (different story) B2W2, which can be played on 3ds
I'm only on ORAS at the moment. XY and ORAS let you complete the dex in gen 6, so I've put 200 hours+ into X collecting all the pokemon I can with their hidden abilities, and breeding and trading for hidden ability pokemon exclusively caught in gen 5 through a now shutdown service (dreamworld)
I think the story of X took me about 20 hours minimum, since I wasn't speedrunning.
I started with gen 1, and I've found all the gens fun. Gen 6 is still fun, the story is probably the weakest from gen 1 to gen 6, by which I mean the evil team is lacking, and the rivals are friendly and show up quite often so it feels more like a group journey than a solo adventure. I didn't mind that on my first playthrough, but later speed runs to get other legendaries in the games makes them kind of annoying.
XY doesn't have a good postgame.
ORAS is pretty good compared to RSE, the same critique of RS is available to ORAS (ie lots of water routes, your journey being all over the place) and the post game is cut-and-paste from XY.
I haven't played SM or USUM yet, so I can't comment.
I played HGSS and BW and BW2 quite quickly since I hadn't played pokemon since platinum, and XY was already out.
BW and BW2 were fun, rewarded exploration, had side stories, a similar quality plot and evil team as previous gens. The main problem is the region being pretty much a ring, and being limited to the gen 5 mons in the story of BW. BW2 has a good postgame, but i skipped it to move onto XY.
