>>44186846Gible? Gible is locked away in an optional dungeon on an optional route that's hidden and extremely easy to miss. And after the 2nd badge, which in DPPt is already several hours into the adventure.
And for Gen 6 and beyond, I think their Pokemon placement is often pretty fucking bad (X/Y's routes are a complete fucking mess).
>>44186853Because Pokemon is a game about teambuilding, that's the main core and drive. You should be creating interesting scenarios and choices for teambuilding. If you gave people the option of 6 legendaries at the start most people would take them and steamroll the game "bUt ThAtS tHeIr ChOiCe!" Yes, and when they say the game was easy, boring, there weren't interesting Pokemon to use, or so on, it'll fall on you, the designer, because you create those choices in the first place.
People will often take the easiest path given to them, and it's your job as a game designer to obscure, obfuscate, or discourage that path so the journey is as interesting and fun as possible. Creating interesting Pokemon and options to explore is what creates really fun experiences, not stuff like "here's an eevee, charmander, rioulu, and pikachu, that's 4 of your team complete!", and a lot of romhacks do just that. Some great examples of the former would be stuff like Phanpy, Hoppip, or Teddiursa early in Crystal.
Pokemon placement is a delicate process that needs a lot of thought placed into it, if you base it entirely on fanservice mons then it'll fucking suck.
