Things I really hated on md games are how only your partner pokemon has emotions or a character. Meanwhile all pokemon you recruit and I am not talking about dungeon ones, but rather story ones, talk during their cutscene but then suddenly they never say anything again.

They do talk if you speak to them in the dungeons, but it just becomes species specific dialogue (or I think IQ group specific in some of the later games but I can’t remember) rather than character based. Even you and your partner will switch to species dialogue after completing the game. I still remember Totodile going from what he usually said to “Can I bite? Can I really bite?” and being confused as to what happened.
