G. Ponyta is probably based moreso on the old 80's My Little Pony if anything. I mean MLP as a franchise has been around a fucking long time, it's synonymous with horse stuff in general.

If it were based off of the 80’s iteration G-Ponyta would be chunkier and they more than likely wouldn’t have changed the shape of the eyes, the lankier builds are more in-line with G3 and the dreaded G4 iterations.

I hate that they did this solely to fit Bede's plot twist of becoming the fairy gym leader. We could've gotten a psychic/fairy ponyta that evolved into a flying/fairy pegasus rapidash, god dammit.
Point still stands regardless since it's based on your typical fairy tail unicorns.

Love Ponyta, don’t like Rapidash. Should’ve been an alicorn. And that stupid 24hr stream that I missed a day of work for... It even ended with the Ponyta LOOKING UP!!! My naive brain immediately took that as winged evolution, boy was I disappointed as the taffy dreadlock unicorn we got. There’s a ton of fanart with added wings and minor changes that make G-Rapidash SOOOO much better.
