What would a Pokemon Region based on the Midwestern USA be like?
What Pokemon would be included?
What Gym Leaders would there be?
The Midwest is boring as fuck, so I'm interested in seeing what you guys come up with.

Great Lake biome, but only if the Ride Pager's used with a Dive that can find small setpieces of wrecked ships, or monster nets.
Extremely flat Wild Area where you can see from one town straight to the next, very large with all the verticality being caves.
Two big river cities, and at least two or three towns that are so small they're just mid-route pieces or in the middle of a Wild Area.
Routes are actual highway routes, but the infrastructure needs updating whenever the route needs a longer winding critical path.
So much corn, one actual cornfield route that acts like tall grass and then small corn patches all over.
At least one setpiece that's just a very big mound but with in-setting historical significance.
A town that's forgotten even its own name, but is just hanging on because of one or two families.
A factory dungeon where mechanical creations are made that nobody actually knows how to use, but the whole town is built around it.
A train that only goes between the two big cities, but the station keeps updating with new attractions.

I honestly think they could make a pretty good area based on abandoned amusement parks, or a normal theme park, but as a whole town. Maybe a haunted house that serves as a ghost type gym.

It's bigger than most countries and significantly bigger than every area that has been adapted in a Pokémon region before. The best Pokémon regions are adapted from a single metropolitan area or a similarly limited geographical region, while the worst Pokémon region yet tried to adapt a full country. The entire midwest is too big for a region. Michigan would make a good region on its own, though. The main storyline could happen in the Lower Peninsula and the UP could be the postgame.

Predominantly farmland and massive tornado-ridden dustbowl.
Lots and lots of long empty roads studded here and there with PokeCenters.
Most common enemy trainer would be Truckers.
You might come across unique spots here and there but they're just tourist traps that are loaded up with trainers trying to scam money out of weakass tourists who are on the way to another state.

I honestly think just Ohio/Indiana/Michigan could be an entire region. They're all pretty similar, but still large enough to fit all necessary areas.

As for some locations, if they wanted to go really obscure there's a small town in NW Ohio that produces almost all of the candy for Spangler's Candy Company. Could be a cool place to put a Rare Candy factory or some other item.

No thank you, They fucked up France and the UK because they pulled this shit. Two states at most, Kalos should've been just Brittany and Normandy with a tiny amount of Pays de la Loire to connect the two.

For a Mid-West game Michigan + Ohio would probably work best or Michigan + Wisconsin if you want a more distinct two halves.

So here's a start on the Pokedex. Base 150 Pokedex with most tied to the actual wildlife and nature of the Midwest and some thrown in for themes and lore in the Midwest (spiritomb, bronzong, zoroark... etc). Flygon is in there for it's inspiration off mayflies even though there's no desert in the Midwest. I'm thinking it could end up being a regional variant (ice/dragon and controls snowstorms and blizzards). Regis and Therains for geographical legendaries, celebi for the mythical. Total is 157 for Pokedex. Working on gym leaders, league, and story next.

My family’s from Nebraska, it’s mainly corn farms to be sure to the point where (I hope it’s still there) there is a “Corn Palace” decorated with literal corn kernels.
That being said it isn’t all that rural. Sure, the farmers live on their farms separate from each other but most places have those cute little twenty or so business town squares with a theater and park or two depending if they’ve got a sports field or high school. Typical quaint Americana but was more on the liberal side when my grandparents were growing up there. Not sure now.
I’d love if there were a grass/ghost type combining stalking, corn stalks, children of the corn and maybe have a Popcorn attack that flinches.

I would include the Stoutland family as dogs are pretty common pets everywhere.

Also, If you want to lean into the mayfly theme for Flygon maybe Bug/Water with levitate? Or go for the short lifespan and make it a Ghost type.

I thought about stoutland, could've removed Lycanroc and rockruff and Durant. It definitely fits in a lot of ways.
The mayfly is in it's physical design, not it's theme, not even its original theme. It commands sandstorms so it seemed fitting to turn it ice or water/dragon and have it command blizzards or rainsrorms
