It's all a matter of having the right pokemon. Competitive pokemon has already a big luck factor. Random battles pump it up even more. You're not supposed to take battles too seriously, sometimes you are just unlucky.

Because being totally matchup based with little room for skill to make a big difference means it loses its novelty after like 5 battles.
Team Preview is was also a great addition to the game and it has dynamax so it's automatically trash.

There's a difference between missing the occasional 90% accuracy move or getting an unlucky status and the opponent just having a Polteageist or Zacian-C with you having absolutely zero way to beat it.

The first can have the impact minimized through skillful play and through proper team building, determining flow of the battle, thinking long term about strategy, the latter is just plain bullshit which is unfun to play against and unfun to play with.

I don't take comp Pokemon seriously either, but if I'm going to play, I'm going to play to win, because I like winning, and I like consistency. I understand the appeal of randbats but it just isn't very enjoyable outside of the initial novelty.

Now I don't. Lately it's been completely broken. One misplay and it's completely over. The novelty of a good play wears off when literally one mistake will cost you the match. I feel like a hamster gambling for dopamine. Not to mention that if I cycle the IP, I can get a fresh rng seed and I'll get good mons and crazy good luck for that hour. The whole website is dogshit honestly. So is this franchise. Thanks for the reminder thread.

Not even really true, there’s tonnes of things that can live a hit and revenge kill even after a SD because of the level adjustments, and that’s without even mentioning your option to dynamax if you resist Behemoth Bash. Current random battles is more about playing to force your opponent to dynamax first so that you can either stall it out and revenge or turn the tables with your own. Come to think of it, dynamax has really been amazing for the meta in general, in previous generations the game would be over the minute your opponent rolled a cloyster, xerneas, or linoone on turn one and there was nothing you could do, but dynamax ironically makes things much more balanced. I feel like most people who complain about dynamax in randoms are just shitters who use it first turn after setting up and get outplayed.

Not actually the case, though it kinda seems that way since they just gave them more sets. Xernas currently has scarf, AV and geomancy (rolled this the other day) sets if I remember right. As for linoone and cloyster, the sets are the same as always, with linoone only running the one belly drum set, and the latter having one spikes set and one with shell smash, like in gen 7.

After just finishing a randbat of 6 physical attackers vs a fucking g-corsola (which I won, but at what cost, that shit took ages and wasn't fun), I can tell you with certainty you don't need full on stall for random battles to give you cancer. It might make away with the bullshit that plagues the "serious" formats, but it is riddled with an entire category of bullshit of its own due to luck-based shenanigans and stupid moveset decisions:
>no spin or defog vs a team with all existing hazards
>weakness policy DD necrozma-dm, which would be hard to beat as is, always has morning sun because fuck you that's why
>salazzle's toxic subprotect set, aegislash's toxic subprotect set, moody glalie subprotect disable set, because those sure are the most fun ways to use those pokemon
>lead slurpuff vs a mon that can't 2HKO it
>lead wobbuffet in general
>anything regarding zacian
>the arctos are worse than the dracos... I know! lets give them an AV set! that'll sure make them fun!
>grapploct is the new crabominable in that it's completely fucking useless 9 out of 10 matches and its only ability is to die
>anything with an eviolite
>the bizarre level scaling where certain mons that have no bussiness being lvl80 or higher are lvl80 or higher
>mons having very unbalanced sets, where one is clearly superior (ie: white herb unburden hawlucha vs banded mold breaker hawlucha)
It does have its perks, like making zoroark situationally useful, but they don't excuse the other shit.

in natdex AG I use WP Dragonite as my primary dynamaxer and it OHKO's the Gen VI ubers like crazy
