I'm almost certain the writers had Gendo somewhere in their mind while writing Lusamine, what with the whole "Loved their significant other with all their heart, but became unhealthily obsessed with their research once an experiment went horribly wrong and they lost their SO, resulting in them becoming kinda insane and negligent of their children."
There's probably a parallel to make between Guzma and Ritsuko in there somewhere but that's a likely a stretch.
