You can play casual battles, 6v6 isn't a competitive format so you can't pick it in ranked but it's available.

6v6 battles require heavy fine-tuning and bans to not be broken to hell and back, plus they take a shitton of time. Imagine a regular 100+ turn smogon battle taking place at the game's snail speed.

Why does that even need to be a factor if it's an unranked game mode? I just want to battle randoms on cart 6v6. I don't need some autistic ranking system, I just wanna have fun.

That requires you to wait for someone to accept your challenge with no guarantees rather than an actual battle stadium mode. It's not enough.
