This is ultimately why the new films are bad - you twist the archetypes and change the names, but it feels like history is repeating itself rather than the new movies being set in a real future of the SW universe.
Bring this back to Pokemon, GameFreak is awful and inconsistent about worldbuilding. They don't give a fuck about canon and neither does Disney. Disney finds it restrictive.
Without the worldbuilding you can't endear new mons to an audience. This is the difference between a Greninja and a Chandelure. So all Disney would be good for is milking preexisting popular designs and marketing the shit out of it.
They're no better than TPCi and might be worse, since they'd actively try to purge neckbeard fans who are blind paypigs to this franchise.
