Why have people forgotten Swordward and Shieldbert so quickly? They aren't discussed anywhere and don't appear in the anime or in any merchandise.

Because they're just not memorable. They're supposed to be villains but their execution was somehow botched even more than Team Flare.
It would've been cool if they had a squadron of royal knights and actually tried to take over the region or something, but all they did was make a handful of Pokemon dynamax inside stadiums meant to house them and piss off some wolves.
