The anime never ha Lusamine be evil, just a busy mom that ended up being a bit negligent because of work. Flip side, Lillie turned out to be a bitch because Lusamine's Clefairy evolved.

In retrospect too edgy for a kids' game.
I'm still pissed the story in SwSh was a huge shitshow compared to SM. It was the first time they actually tried to have a story and a real despicable villain.

Honestly kids are more resilient than most adults think they are. Even assuming you're ten years old you know stuff like "people die" and "sometimes adults who should be good people aren't."

A Lusamine who grew obsessive and distant from the grief of losing her husband and became controlling towards her children is interesting and I think it's something that kids can understand.

Lillie is one of the worst characters in Pokémon. They tried to actually give a character personality but wrote it the wrong way and made her some shitty trope.
