PBR had at least as much variety as the Stadium game by sheer game mode count (much of Stadium is different flavors of the same thing, really) and had universal level scaling to make everything playable right out of the gate, but it wasn't the all-in-one fanservice experience the Stadium games were, needlessly to set up with game carts compared to the seamless Transfer Paks, and FAAAAAAR less playable out of the box. And Genius had just come off of two Gamecube RPGs, they knew how to make a Pokemon list, but no, we needed Ranch.
