It's not so much that kids are stupid, it's that they grow impatient if they can't figure out how to progress or win the game. So they get bored and drop the game. Growing up I knew lots of kids like this. They found Pokémon boring cause they had to actually use their brain

Yes. And now most of them have access to cellphones which had many games so will just play other games instead. It is not like us growing up where we can keep figuring things out ourselves in the games as there is no other easy distraction for us if things get difficult.

Don't get even more bored with these piss easy games? At least a kid with decent attention span can enjoy the old games, but the new ones are unenjoyable, forgettable and a waste of time you won't even remember fondly. It's fast food. I don't think any kid actually enjoys these games, and I'd even argue they stunt their mental development with the constant coddling and lack of challenge. Being easy is one thing, but requiring absolute no thought or paying any attention to what you are doing is just awful game design and a shallow experience for any child.

That's not what hand holding is. As >>44221345 said, hand holding is when the game tries to make it so that the game is easier. Forcing the player to watch a cutscene doesn't make the game easier, all it's doing making you wait. Hand holding would be something like the the map telling you where to go or the text telling what moves are super effective on the opponent.

I just started replaying it as well, and I cannot believe how much of the handholding I forgot existed. You cannot walk 5 feet in these games without someone grinding your progress to a halt to saw some stupid bullshit. Most pokemon games have handholding, but USUM is unrivaled by any game. Even Sword/Shield dialed it back a bit in comparison to USUM

Those cutscenes often revolve around telling the player exactly where to go next. The character will drone on about where you should go next and what might be there. Then the camera will slowly, slowlyyyyyyyy pan over in the direction you need to go. Despite the fact there's a fucking red flag on the map telling you exactly where you need to go to progress the story.
