She was the first female protagonist and they showed respect by not fucking up her design with the new artstyle. They just removed her so you'll remember her in her prime.

My waifu Whitney wasn't so lucky. She was redesigned to look like she belongs in a mental institution, with the typical insane eyes of the Sinnoh artstyle.

The same reason that the Battle Frontier wasn't in ORAS. Because Kris was from Crystal. HGSS are remakes of Gold & Silver, Kris wouldn't have fit since she's Crystal specific.

Yeah, but Kris is literally named after Crystal, her hair is the same blue hue as the game itself. She IS Pokemon Crystal. Personally I wish they would've given her an NPC appearance, something like Steven in Emerald. Have her be a strong trainer, maybe appears somewhere Suicune was/is. Give her the starter that no one grabbed.

Kris was a tough trainer similar to Gold or any of the random ace trainers. Just look at her design. She would never wear clothes like that or give you tutorials every route. They are different characters.

I'll take a guess and say it's because her design screams "Crystal" more than it does "Gold & Silver", so they made a new female protag that felt more like the latter.
A shame tho. All the fanart of Lyra could've been hers instead.

Crystal could have absolutely been made into something else, as evidenced by Golden Boy's overhaul losing all of his 90's smirk and hard angles. There was a deliberate choice to make a new girl, maybe wanting to move away from the hard counterpart premise old.
