I’ve seen a lot of hate towards Gen 7. Reminder to the ugly and manchildren boomers that:
>Alola had the best story
>The most difficult games
>Had the best characters
>had the best new dex
>had the best waifus (almost all lolis)
>had the best champions (Kukui and Hau)
>had the best plot (lusamine goes through a redemption arc, Lily goes through a hero arc)
>had the best graphics
>had the best gimmick: zmoves
>had regional forms which are superior version of KANTOOO mon
>only ugly boomers and unovabortions hate gen 7

Gen 7 had a good story but it shouldn’t have been a Pokémon story. You the player character, the muscle that moves the plot forward, paradoxically have zero input or agency on account of you being a silent protagonist. You’re not the main character yet you’re the most important, but also the least important. For example: every conversation is between two characters talking to each other an not you, so you’re essentially third-wheeling the whole story. But when something needs fighting, it’s your job but all the payoff goes to the NPCs.

Well to summarize it:
1. Alola actually changes the gameplay with Totem mon and Kahunas instead of Gymleaders, it dares to do something different and innovative.
2. The theme of the game is remarkable. It’s about human growth and you see it in all characters: Guzma, Lillie, Gladion, etc.
3. The designs are pretty kino, Pokémon like Buzzwhole, Rowlet, Incineroar are S tier.
4. They don’t cut off past gimmicks: even if I don’t like gen 6 I can admit megas were kino and having them back in post game is really cool.

I was so-so on Gen 6 overall at the time, and I've only grown to dislike it more, but Gen 7 I've had the opposite experience with, especially in comparison to Gen 8. The two issues I really take with Gen 7 is the removal of the national dex (which isn't actually a huge deal) and the lack of a (meaningful) remake, not that it needed it.
All we can hope for with gen 8 at this point is that the Sinnoh remakes, should they exist, do for the generation what Hoenn did for Gen 6, which is to make it slightly more than mediocre.

Gens 1-4 are still in a class of their own, and I still regard 5 as being better than 6-8, which I can't imagine to be a terribly controversial point of view.
