I didn't know they hated Mega evolution so much that they still slap it on everything else still and they even made a game for phone faggots so they'd know that they were getting it too.

Seriously, while i don't hate gen 6 like most of /vp/ does, it has a one serious sin - it brought the combat gimmicks to Pokemon, and now we're bound to have one every gen.

Meter.

Meter in order to use Z-Moves / Maxxing / Mega Evolving / whatever the new gimmick is.

Call it whatever you like. You gain meter by hitting super-effective moves, KOing Pokemon, getting hit by not very effective moves, etc.

Meter would reward slightly more offensive play and correct prediction, rather than Stall, etc.

After you build up "meter", you can use meter to Mega Evolve, use a Z Move, etc. Then your meter decreases by whatever superficial amount is set to do said action.

You could have certain mega evolutions, z moves, and dynamaxes / gigantamaxes cost more or less meter for balance and play styles. Like Mega Audino would cost a lot less meter than Mega Metagross, or Z Stone Edge would cost more than Z Rock Throw. Should I use all my meter on this powerful Z Move? Or save it to Mega Evolve?

Could be used in tandem in super long battles. Megas could use Z moves or Dynamax if enough meter is built up.

Could create moves / abilities that would increase meter, but that could also be broken or too stally. Depends on implementation.

Kinda like a "battle hype" system? Could be a pretty good way of rewarding good tactics, but would probably be unfun to play against if you're getting creamed. While that makes logical sense, great games are fun to both the winners and the losers.

Personally, Mega Evolution and Regional varients. It'd be interesting where they cna take the varients and mega evolution wasn't a really really broken thing cause it was usually predictable and took up an item space.

If I were to hold high expectations, then I'd like to see NPC's gain life. They did with the Pokémon, so they can do with the trainers, so my gimmick suggestion would be Helper Trainers, a special trainer class that not only use higher leveled Pokémon, they also use a "Cheatmon", a Pokémon that no other trainer from same class use, but is somewhat related to their theme. After the battle, they will pass their number to you so that they can help you explore dungeon areas. tl;dr: They're living HM's. i.e.: HM-Cut becomes a Kindler, which uses 2 Fire types and 1 Slashing Pokémon, normally Grass-type.

Regional variants because they're an easy and fast way to pump out a "new Pokemon" by refreshing an old Pokemon.
Mega Evolution some people will bring up gen 8, but it's in Let's Go, Go, the anime, and all side games love to use it. At this point it's ingrained into Pokemon more than most other mechanics and it's easier to get more Go players into the main games with it.

Nah, not how it works kid. Gimmicks are the megas/Z-Crystals/Dynamax energy - an outside force acting on the pokémon directed by its trainer which affects an in-battle scenario.
Regionals SHOULD have been in the games a lot earlier than they did, but the fact they weren't dropped for something different like megas and Z-Crystals eventually were prove they're no gimmick.

I want the gimmick to be that there is no new gimmick. Trash Z-moves, trash Dynamax/G-max, and maybe bring back and improve Mega Evolution. Don’t introduce any new weird things and just focus on making a good game with all the content, options, and features they already have improved as much as they can.

Sounds like what they did in black and white. Youd gain like points to use on items per turn so the longer the battle the more youd have to use on healing or even a revive. Itd be cool to see what they'd do with it

Black and white pokemon with no colours with very pixelated sprites. This is an ingame effect that lasts 3 turns, cannot be activated by the opponent at the same time as the user, and it halves all of the opponents stats including hp as well as any new incoming pokemon. The only pokemon immune to this is Shedinja.

I'll say this for regional variants, tying new evolutions to regional forms was a good idea.

It lets GF explore new takes on old concepts without pointless redundancies. We don't NEED another coral Pokemon when we have Corsola, so making it evolve into a bleached coral ghost lets them play around in the same sandbox without needing to totally reinvent it.

Or Meowth. There's lots of cat breeds in the world, so why not make the new cat a Meowth variant instead of coming up with a whole new species?

Hopefully they'll extend it to other overdone Pokemon: how many Pikaclones do we really need when we could have a regional Pikachu? How many early bugs? Route 1 rodents?

Hell, one of these days I'm expecting regional variant *starters*. And why not? We've already got some good ones, so why not tweak their designs? A frog (Froakie) a turtle (Turtwig) and a lizard (Charmander) could be the selection one day, but with new evolutions.
