These were the worst starters until Gen 6
Gen 6 starters were the worst until Gen 7
Gen 7 starters were the worst until Gen 8.

Gen 4 starters were the last good ones.

I really do think Gen VIII had a nice balance between each of the starters, despite what might be said about them individually. The last time I'd argue it ever felt quite like that was III or IV.
