are there any false pokemon rumors that you believed for way too long?

My friend told me in elementary school not to leave my pokemon with the daycare in gen 2 because they're secretly thieves and there was a small chance they'd steal your pokemon. I believed up until just like 3-5 years ago when I finally looked it up
