While i didn't buy any of gen 8, i unironically think that dlc is a better model than third or "ultra" versions.
At least with dlcs they wouldn't have to butcher the main story like they did in USUM

I'm withholding my opinion on DLC until when/if they make a "GOTY" version that's the base game +DLC for like $40. If they do that, I'll give them a standing ovation.

Why do you think they will ever sell a game that people will buy at $90 for less than half of that? You'll honestly be lucky to even find the base game for $40 used, pokemon games don't really drop, and Nintendo never did a discount DLC bundle for Zelda or Splatoon or Smash or anything else.

Only complete failures get marked down, and even that depends. It could happen in the future, plenty of trends on Nintendo systems have been bucked over the years, but you have no reason to believe it'll happen any time soon, if at all.
