Can someone redpill me on how to use imprison properly and why it’s used?

also good for doubles battles if you have a teammate that has common weaknesses and a ally who knows imprison with the teammate's type weaknesses common moves. (Teammate shedinja and a ally with imprison with shedinja's common type weakness moves like air slash, flamethrower, shadow ball etc)

It prevents the opposing team from using any move the user knows, as long as the user remains in battle. As it affects the user rather than the opponent, it is not bounced by magic bounce. The most normal way to use it is in a mon that learns both imprison AND a highly valuable move that you want to prevent as much as possible (rapid spin, defog, hazards, toxic, taunt, dragon dance, protect, substitute, fake out, etc) depending on your team's needs. As long as you can keep your mon on the field, the opponent is unable to click that move forever. Specially useful the first time for surprise factor.

Alternatively, if you have a mon that knows a trapping move, transform and imprison, you can cause virtually any foe to struggle to death with no counterplay. It is a meme strat, but it's fun if you can pull it off.

Imprision is one of the main counterplays to Trick Room, as well as preventing the opponent from using Protect and in some cases Follow Me or Ally Switch, all very popular moves. In fact, Pokemon that learn Detect use it over Protect specifically to avoid being Imprisoned.

It completely shuts down Trick Room teams. You just run Imprison + Trick Room and let your Pokemon sit there locking TR from ever being used, since the opponent switching around doesn't "lift" the Imprison, only if you switch.
If you are scared of Prankster + Taunt Whimsicott or some shit like that in doubles, run Mental Herb and fuck them up too.

For singles I think there's a Mew set that uses Block, then Imprison, then Transform = traps a Pokémon and blocks it from doing anything other than struggle and die.
