Is that even real? I got the cave to go all the way to the ruins and still couldn't get a hippopotas to appear. Guidebook said it should've been 20% by then, but that seems like bullshit. I was running back and forward for hours and still nothing. Ended up just breeding a hippowdon.

Sinnoh has the most caves of any region but relies on old pokemon for it's encounter tables so you just have loads of kanto pokemon filling the dex. It's a pity too, it suffers almost as bad as gen 2 where much of it's pokemon are gimmicky so they can't fill up the routes well enough and the region ends up spamming you with the same old gen 1 pokemon. Platinum semi fixes this but not quite enough

The problem isn’t Kanto Pokemon. The problem is seeing the same few Pokemon through the entire fucking game, which isn’t helped by gen 2 and 3 also using those exact same choices.
