They might not be "broken" but they enable stupid bullshit like braindead pivoting and overreliance on status and Knock Off to properly punish bulkier pivots since they don't inherently get pressured by switching as much anymore. Part of the reason Clefable is so infuriating to deal with is its immunity to hazards and status damage (unless you run Unware). At least boots don't prevent status from wearing you down but still.

I haven't paid attention to every World Cup game but from what U can tell Skarmory has been getting some more usage again. Think it might rise to OU again soon enough but then again the ladder usually does its own thing.

Yes it does bugfag, entry hazards are the #1 threat to stall and defensive teams in general. Offensive teams obviously don't like hazards either, especially with a blatant weakness like Volcarona, but it's not a coincidence one of the very few playstyles that can get away without hazard control is HO since it's inherently not going to switch and stick around much and much rather prefers keeping up its own hazards on the opponent's side.

Boots is actually huge for Blissey as a pivot.
If your opponent gets 3 spikes+stealth rock up and you are staring down a Hydregion, you aren’t taking almost half your HP to beat Hydregion while switching in.

Sylveon is actually bulkier than Clefable, but Entry Hazards doing fixed percentage damage means that Clefable is leagues better than Sylveon thanks to Magic Guard alone.

Well fuck me, having as many switch-ins as Urshifu while having better Speed, better general bulk, Swords Dance, Stealth Rock, and an ability that punishes Knock Off I guess isn’t as valuable as having just Toxic, Spikes, Whirlwind, and a slightly stronger Body Press.

I'm wondering if Magic Room could actually be viable now to counter Boots. I can kinda see it working on hazard stacking HO teams where the sweepers don't care about their items or whose items get used up early (focus sash, terrain seeds, etc.). Granted, most of the mons that get it are shit but there's some that I could see it working on like Alakazam, Jirachi, Mew, Espeon, Xatu, Ribombee, Mimikyu, Hatterene, and after Crown Tundra, Latias, Lele, and Fini.

Rapshifu is only good on a rain team. In just about every other case it's outclassed by Singlefu. Sure the latter has a 4x Fairy weakness, but you're retarded if you don't have something to deal with Fairy anyway.

the reason for species clause is because nobody should be allowed to have a team of 3 blissey and 3 clefable, it makes prediction into a nightmare and will primarily be used by stall and regenerator cores.
i actually agree with item clause, but game freak needs to make more viable items instead of trash like Contact Pads or whatever it was called. same with garbage like those snowball and battery items. throat spray is a step in the right direction.

I can have two dragon dancers on my team while you only have 1 choice scarfer, I just have to sac one mon to kill your scarfer then DD up and sweep
and I get multiple chances to DD up while you have one scarfer that gets worn down by hazards and switching in to attacks
item clause is less bad in doubles due to fewer switches which inherently lowers the power level of items like Leftovers and choice items

You didn't even mention that players are so scared shitless of Urshifu they've dropped Protect, one of the few ways to scout Terrakion scarf sets and punish it. Urshifu's meta influence helps make Terrakion better, just like how Darm-G made Dracovish better when the two existed together

the attitude you're speaking of comes from Gen VII where Ash-Greninja had no way of breaking Chansey, even running modest specs in rain. and that comes from the baffling issue of Greninja not learning Knock Off, which all Japanese-themed Pokemon and most Dark types learn.

Cinderace is a product of the limited meta. Volcarona is the upper limit of power for a x4 weak mon that isn't a flying type.
The legacy of HDB is that it is a massive buff to the already broken Flying type. It hurts the game far more than it helps shitmons.

It is strong and most opponents only have 1 dark type (if any), which makes predicting who is going to switch in to take the hit quite easy. Failing a dark type, it just becomes a matter of predict the resist. No resist? Then their special wall. No special wall? Then it is good damage.

Good stuff confirming you don't follow OU. Charizard is ranked because it's a good sun abuser with Choice Specs, not because of HDB. Specs fire moves in sun are super spammable and have almost no real switchins without Heatran around and Ttar being fairly uncommon. Even fire resists like slowbro or Hydreigon get destroyed by Overheat in sun.

The only reason why you would want to use Skarmory over Corviknight is to compress a Defogger with a Hazard setter, as a put Hazard Setter Skarmory is outclassed by Ferrothorn and Mew, and Corviknight is has a way better compressed role as a Defogger+Pivot.

Boots are broken because they primarily buff the broken flying type which was held in check by a lack of good offensive moves and stealth rock until talonflame ruined everything forever. Now they gave everything hurricane/wingbeat and mandibuzz doesn't risk anything switching in and can keep spamming knock off all day, and you will all be BEGGING for a boot ban when zapdos comes back.

Running HDB means you can't run lefties for recovery, but Regenerator + U-Turn means Tornadus can pivot in at any time, remove hazards, and then leave while still recovering HP and preserving momentum. Zapdos also learned Weather Ball, which becomes a 100 BP Water move in rain before the weather boost.

Kingdra was literally OU for a while in gen 7 too for exact same reason it's OU now, being the best (non-mega) Swift Swim abuser. Getting Hurricane definitely helped it this gen but I can't imagine it's staying since rain doesn't seem that reliable/popular after the initial "new toy" phase of all the DLC additions.

no they don't. one move skarmory sucks a million dicks and doesn't have the threat coverage you want on stall. why would you ever run spikes on stall skarmory when your best move is to defog any time they get up rocks anyways. same story on spike stacking builds, you're making yourself worse vs defoggers, worse in general, less able to find turns to click spikes, more vulnerable to random magnezone winning the whole hazard game for your opponent, it's so bad. it's anti-strategy. role compression doesn't mean anything if you end up filling both roles badly

Magnezone’s only way to remove opposing Steel-types now is Body Press
Magearna isn’t weak to Body Press
Therefore Magnezone will be better when Magearna is banned

It's less that Magearna is "strong" against Magnezone, and more that using Magnezone to take out their Steels is a weak gameplan if that Steel is Magearna.

>Fleur Cannon chunks Magnezone despite the resistance
>Volt Switch lets it escape the trap
>Max HP Magearna can tank a Specs Thunderbolt

The expected payoff of bringing a Magnezone will be increased if people start using Steels that are easier to trap once Magearna is gone.
