>>44258180While it's wildly offtopic for this thread, I think HMs could still have a place in the series. Having another element you need to consider in your team planning (whether you have the necessary HMs or not for a given segment of the game) is good; the main gripe people tend to have with HMs is that the in-battle moves are often lackluster and effectively gimp the monster they're taught to, as they will have fewer slots for stronger moves. This could be circumvented by giving Pokemon separate overworld move slots that don't compete with battling moves.
To stay on topic, let's look at DPPt's Trainer Battle.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUPv1ZVyDKsThe Sinnoh battle tracks feature some heavy bass, don't they? Cool shit. After a standard intro, we enter a part with a pretty whimsical main melody. At the 30 sec point this evolves into a slightly more foreboding but still happy melody that also gives lots of space for the aforementioned bassline. At the 50 sec mark we enter *the buildup*. And it continues. It changes a bit at 1:10, but still seems to be on the cusp of a bigger payoff. And then the track just kind of flatlines with more bass before the loop. Half of the most-heard (aside from Wild Battle) musical track in the game is spent on buildup that never pays off. It's not a track that sounds immediately offensive to the ears, it's quite nice actually, but it's still a massive disappointment compared to just about every Trainer Battle in the series before or since.
