If we are moving this into the discussion of if they can love a human: Mareanie, Bayleef, and Latias all display signs of romantic attraction to a human and in fact do things that would be seen as romantic in their own ways. Mareanie for example clamping onto James's head to show affection and making him look like a Mareanie himself. Or the kiss on the cheek that Chikorita gave Ash. OR the very possible kiss on the cheek that Latias gave ash. These are romantic signs and active romantic attractions they had/have for these humans.
