>>44273053Big, kaiju sized Pokemon rumbles are actually a super neat idea, but it's like Godzilla movies vs Godzilla games. Watching him walk around and casually stomp on buildings with tiny people for scale gives it weight, and seeing him toss another monster into a building and knock it over onto those little people is what makes it thrilling. It's seeing the show of force play out.
When you're PLAYING as Godzilla, you can do whatever, knocking over buildings has the impact of smashing two toys together, it lacks the emotional urgency from the scale and lack of power to stop it.
So I think Gigantamax and the whole plot thread of 'wild pokemon randomly gigantamaxing and going cuhrayzee!' has potential, but was totally squandered because we didn't SEE anything getting destroyed to establish stakes. We don't even have cool battle animations showing monsters clash physically so we can FEEL the size and weight of these two big monsters fighting.
It's hard to talk about it as a part of the world because it really only exists to the player as a mechanical gimmick.
