It's painfully obvious GF are incompetent as fuck when it comes to making 3D core Pokemon games. Nintendo should have enlisted a larger and better dev studio when making the transition to the 3DS

The only thing XY has going for it is 3D, BW2 did everything else better. But I will admit 3D is so much better than pixel animations that all pixel Pokemon games look shit to me now.

Regarding real world places and references I always saw it as a gradual process

>Gen 1
The Pokemon world is established to be esentially our world with Pokemon and some new/alternate locales

>Gen 2
Normal animals no longer appear, no more references to real world events, mentions of real world places are used more sparingly

>Gen 5
The Pokemon world doesn't take place on our version of planet earth, mentions of real world places are completely gone, except for the odd pokedex entry

>Gen 6/7
Pokedex entries are altered to not mention real world locations anymore, the Pokemon world now has it's own way of writing, replacing all japanese/english text in the games and anime
