Let me use a simple analogy your liquefied brain can understand.
A burger is made up of many components. The buns, the meat, and the toppings.
The meat (model) and toppings (polygon count) are integral to the burger. changing any of those significantly makes it a new type of burger.
The bun (texture) is necessary to complete the burger, but it isn't going to change the taste or too significantly. You could easily alter the bun, while still keeping the integrity of the recipe.
By that logic, replacing the buns of a burger doesn't make it a new recipe. the toppings and meat do.
