Why are Bulbapedos and Smugonites so adamant about Megas and Z-Moves not returning? They were fucking lied to in the face about missing Pokemon not returning at all, so some doubt should be allowed

missing pokemon coming back doesn't cause much competition with any galar gimmicks (especially as they intentionally made the legendaries busted)
mega evolutions and z moves will compete with dynamaxing though and will make dynamaxing seem less special, which gf doesn't want
i don't think the odds of them coming back are completely zero, but i do think it's very very unlikely for that reason

The DLC added Pokemon because it’s incredibly easy and a way to show “look we totally listened and changed our mind on this”. Adding megas or z moves would be a lot more involved as they involving bringing back actual game mechanics and not just models that they already have.

Plenty of non mega pokemon were viable. Your team didnt need a mega, though megas were really powerful. They also helped make shitmons into actually good pokemon. Dynamax cant do shit to save lopunny or mawile.

Unless its name was Mawile, Kangaskhan, or Medicham, then no, not really. The vast majority of """shitmons""" that got Megas remained complete garbage.

It's too much bloat to have megas, z moves, and whatever new battle gimmick comes next all in one game. GF made the right move to focus on one in gen 8. I'm pretty sure they regret even keeping megas in gen 7.

That said, theyll obviously both return in some capacity, perhaps as DLC packs for future games, but theyll probably not let you use everything in official formats

You're implying that all mons even remotely benefit equally from dynamax, which is just not even remotely true. The dynamax mons that benefit the most can accomplish more in 3 turns than something like Mega Mence or Lucario could do with permanent mega, while other mons are just worthless to dynamax.
