In Gold, luckily I first read about it in some vidya magazine so I didn't freak out and resetted. Not that I had some use for pokerus at the time, I did already beat the game and I had no clue about EVs at all.

I first got it from an online trade in Diamond
I later found it myself in White while grinding Audinos for exp, went back to the Center to restore PP and the nurse told me about it. It had apparently been there a while, since it had spread to my whole team and was cured when I checked mons' status.
